I have yet to get into an argument about this that didn’t eventually boil down to the fundamental disagreement as to whether Israel has a right to exist. If you think Israel has a right to exist, there’s no two ways about it. This is the bare minimum of what they have to do, and they’ve shown remarkable restraint. If you don’t, then there’s no discussion.

This whole issue has been hugely frustrating to watch, since all rationality and decency seems to have flown out the window in a cloud of anti-semitic hand wringing.

As for Islam, we really need to figure out sooner rather than later that there are many muslims whom we simply cannot please. Trying to is a betrayal to our allies and a dereliction of our duties to ourselves.

Agreed. Saw some State Dept. twit get all hot and bothered this morning about a 15 YO American held by the Israelis after he was caught throwing stones as part of a palestinian mob. I sure wish State would show that much interest in the U.S. Marine help by Mexico for over three months now.

As for Israel’s restraint and world opinion, they’re gonna get excoriated by the media no matter what. They should just go ahead and clean that mess up once and for all – and then turn their attention to Iran, which is still working to develop nukes and which the rest of the world is ignoring.

It is without a doubt that if Israel so desired, they could lock their tanks and bulldozers tread to tread and start at the north end of the Gaza Strip and no stop till they hit Egypt, grinding everything (plant, animal, human, building alike) under their treads the whole way… And no nation or military force on the planet could stop them before they finished doing it. The fact that they have not done so tells me that they are indeed the ones exercising considerable restraint.

If a similar situation were to happen in California and several thousand unguided rockets were to rain down on the stretch of land from San Diego to Bakersfield over the course of a few months coming from Mexico, Baja, Sonora and Chihuahua would form state number 51 inside a week, the cartel wars would be over and it would be a coin toss as to whether we stopped there or just went ahead and decided that Monterrey and Mexico City would be nice additions to the list of places that the US had kicked the Mexicans out of and claimed as their own.

Addendum: Isn’t it “Funny” that all those “Great Muslim Leaders of the Resistance to the Occupation” never seem to be anywhere NEAR the Front Lines when the Shooting Starts? Nazrullah of Hezbollah ran away from Lebanon to Iran when the last Dust-Up started a few years ago. Sadr ran away to Iran when his “Mahdi Army” was getting their Head handed to them in Iraq. Al-Queda and the Taliban seem to be hiding out in Pakistan. Now Mashall is hiding out in Qutar while Gaza gets it.

Yet ALL of them have No Problem having their “Grunts” hide behind Women and Children and Hospitals, etc, using THEM as Shields.

To me, it sounds like a Job for Seal Team Six.
