Urg…

Some days are just NOT fun…

And this Monday was one of them…

Little sleep, long meetings and WAY too much coffee…

Instant coffee at that… Note to self, BRING GOOD COFFEE next time…

STILL Monday

Just trying to hang on a stay awake long enough to try to go to sleep in the ‘right’ timezone…

Trust me there is not a damn thing to do at 0300 in Perth… And they only gave me six of the little instant coffee packets…

Hope your Monday is better than mine…

  1. By the time that jet lag has caught up with you, it will be time to fly to the other side of the planet again. (the bright side?)

Sorry my friend. I sympathize fully.

  2. Hang in there!

Doing ‘chores’ here, and dog/cat wrangling whilst roomie is visiting her daughter in Tucson.

Try to participate in some festivities when you are done aka malted beverages(?)

  3. Hey Decaffinated OLD NFO;

I am shock and appalled..A well seasoned and experienced traveler like you got bit by the crappy coffee?
You didn’t bring your own stash? Does the Land down Under have restrictions on bringing in coffee? What is the possibility of going to the local version of winn dixie, publix, walmart, ete,ete and picking up some decent stuff?

    Caffeinated minds want to know…

  4. Hey old NFO;

Forgot to add the “Feeling your pain”….to my earlier post.

  5. Hope your Monday is better than mine…

I’m almost CERTAIN it is, coz I’m NOT working. And I won’t be working tomorrow, either. πŸ™‚

In re: the coffee. Like a couple o’ others above me, I always took my own coffee on the road. Always.

  6. Urg! Indeed!

BTDT, but fortunately not for a long, long time.

Story: I was once partnered with a guy named Freiman. He always arrived wherever he needed to be in the last few seconds, red-eyed with bags dark enough to be coal smudges. Once when we had no hot water…no water at all, he tore open one of those single-serving instant coffee packages and poured the contents directly into his mouth.

He later told me the cure was worse than the condition. I never saw him do it again.

  7. WSF- Surely you jest… Sigh…

    LL- Yep, heading back Friday…

gfa- I’m beginning to resemble the cat on the screen door… and beverages yes!!!

    PH- Yep… sigh

Bob- Had the ziplock laid out, FORGOT to put it in the damn suitcase… sigh

    CP- Yep, they got nuttin…

    Rev- That it does!

Buck- see above, had it, forgot to pack it!

Crucis- LOL, I’m not THAT desperate!

  8. Spent 20 yrs. in the canoe club and never had a single cup! After being out a few years middle son opens a Starbucks here on the Island, got me to try one of the sissy drinks, hooked me good, and now I can’t get along without the kickstart every morning. Nothing fancy just a good dark roast Eyetralian mix!

  9. Australia again?? I sure hope you’re getting your frequentflyer miles!
I drank my first coffee served the Gorgeous stewardess on the Pan-Am flight to Hawaii when going overseas – I was seven (and a half). Looked at my first Playboy (Japanese version, couldn’t read the articles) when we got to the hotel in Tokyo. Nice newsstands there! πŸ™‚
We bring instant Starbucks when we travel, but really I should just pack the Nespresso machine and a bunch of pods.

    • Why bring a Nespresso?

The local stores (Coles, Woolworths, Target, Kmart) sell pod-based coffee machines for under $50, and all the pods you might like. It would be easier to just buy one each trip, and give it away as a gift when you leave.

Oz might be a long way from the US, but we DO have most of the first-world amenities.

Life here is pretty good, and other than the stupid gun laws, my biggest gripe is the arcane and restrictive business/labour laws that force limited opening hours on almost everyone. That’s why there is nothing open at 0300 in the city.

      • Considering these machines would likely be 110v, your coffee would be done even faster on Aussie power. πŸ™‚

      • Hell, I was just thinking of bringing the Nespresso device to the Gunblogger Rendezvous. Australia is a long flight and a different voltage! The machine actually weighs very little. We bought a cheap crock-pot on one trip to Maui and saved a lot by NOT dining out! Gave it to the Houskeeping staff when we left. πŸ™‚

  10. Ev- That STILL amazes me… LOL

NC- LOL, not that way today…

Sendarius- Gonna look into that. Didn’t think about doing it THAT way… Thanks!

    Drifter- True!!! INSTANT boil!!! πŸ™‚

  11. Oh God, I do love Perth. As a former WestPac sailor, I could find something memorable do to in Perth at 0030. Just sayin’
