Cars…

A wrap up from the last trip…

Leave it to a bunch of American ‘kids’ to find the hot cars/hot rods regardless of what country they’re in…

Everybody has heard of the Nissan GT-R. It was the answer to the Toyota Supra, and was homologated for racing early in it’s life…

The Wiki is HERE.

And here are three of the Gen 3s, all in the same parking lot at one of our bases in Japan…

Two in blue…

cars 1

One in Gray… I couldn’t get a good shot of this one’s nose, but the owner had added a US racing cooler to the front intake, and I ‘think’ he’d played with the turbos too! Β At least that’s what it sounded like when he left…cars 2

I know there was at least one more on that base, owned by a Machinist Mate 1 who had in his words,Β “played with it a bit”…

So I come back home, and what do I see…

Cars 3A PINK Honda… sigh…Really???

  1. That spoiler on the pink Honda? It is to laugh. The GT-R, OTOH, is something to die for.

  2. The pink is a little over the top and Pepto Bismol to boot.

  3. Apart from the nauseating pink, young drivers will customize whatever car they happen to have. Whether it’s appropriate or not is something only us olde pharts worry about. πŸ™‚

  4. First LL with the (spit) pink Sig, now you with the (spit) pink car… what are you guys drinking…
Saved by that Ford pick’m up on right!!

  5. I’m probably not one to talk as I’m the teenager who put Purple Horney Headers on her VW bug.

  6. Saw a customized Pinto once. I would not have thought of customizing a Pinto.

  7. Ah, the Del Sol. Honda’s replacement for the CRX. What a flop; even the Valley Girls didn’t want them. The CRX was being harmed by the high insurance costs. Sorry, Honda, the insurance industry didn’t like the Del Sol either. Salespeople loved the Del Sol. Honda put up $2,500 in hidden rebates to the dealers to get them off the lots. Pink? Why not. Some of the OEM colors were worse.

  8. I suppose pointing out how useless the spoiler was on these cars wouldn’t do anything.

These are front wheel drive cars.

I also have a saying about the inverse ratio from wing area to winkus size for front wheel drive cars.

  9. The Skylines were front engine, rear wheel drive.

Back in the day, they were capable of 13 second quarter mile times, at over 100MPH.

Quite the factory hot rod, and still highly valued for their performance.

  10. Buck- Yep!!!

    Fargo- Ah… yeah, just a ‘bit’…

    Rev- True, but dayum… Really???

Dammit- It’s DC area, what can I say?

Prof- Great, link will go up shortly!

    drjim- Sleeper hot rod!

Brigid- NOT the strangest thing I’ve seen on a bug… trust me…

PH- Nope, not in THIS lifetime anyway…

WSF- LOL< didn't know that... Joseph- Drjim is right, the R32 also came as an all wheel drive! The one the MM1 owns is a full blown R32 and it IS all wheel drive.

  11. Wow! The only way that pink thing would be right is if it were only 2 ft high & had a Mattel or Fisher Price logo on it.

  12. I sorta recall flying some light aircraft that didn’t have as much wing area as that pink Honda. πŸ™‚

Somewhat related to the aviation humor of the other day is something that happened to me some years ago. I was westbound VFR, using radar flight following, and when I began transitioning the “Great Central Alabama Air Force Flight Training Area”, Center handed me off to the military controller for that area. At one point, the young and neophytic-sounding controller advised me of unknown eastbound traffic at my six o’clock, five miles. Mind you, I was westbound, so I couldn’t resist keying up my mic and saying, “Roger, and please advise if it turns around and starts chasing me.” Nothing like a conscientious radar controller, but still…

  13. And yes, I did first confirm with the controller that the traffic was at my 6 o’clock and going away, and not my 12 o’clock and closing, before I went all wise-ass.
