45 years…

That’s how long ago I graduated from high school…

Saturday night was the reunion and it was interesting, to put it mildly!  There are always the one or two that never change (check), the ones you don’t remember (check), and the ones that changed so much you had to look at the name tag (check).

And apparently retirement is not all it’s cracked up to be for us old farts.  I talked to 10-12 folks that ‘retired’, and are doing ‘something’ on the side.

Sadly we’ve lost almost 30 of our classmates, a little over 10% of the class.  May they rest in peace.

I guess the one thing that truly never changes is the voice and the personalities! It was a great time, ate too much, and a bunch of us stayed up WELL past our bedtimes…LOL

One of the organizers found two of our coaches from JUNIOR high, and they came.  It’s really scary when BOTH of them recognize you and they didn’t have to look at your name tag… (STILL wondering how the hell they did that, or what ‘I’ did)…

Many thanks to those who put the time and effort into coordinating the reunion and the behind the scenes work it took!

And two more gun pics…

‘Old’ school, Cole Agee engraved .45 for Homer Garrison, Chief Texas Ranger…

DSC01360And ‘new’ school… Trying out a ‘finish’ on a carry Glock… And yes he DOES carry this monstrosity… IMG_1895The Kydex does wear the finish off on the muzzle (no surprise there) and this is a shooter, so it’s also wearing on the back of the slide from jacking the slide ALL the way back (he’s another that doesn’t believe in just knocking the slide lock off and hoping it goes into battery). I ‘think’ he has in the vicinity of 5000 rounds through it since the paint job.

  1. I’ve never attended a high school reunion. My class organizer contacted me for our tenth reunion but I was “indisposed” up on the Turkish Black Sea coast… in Beautiful Sinop By the Sea… and couldn’t make it. They never contacted me again, which ain’t no biggie coz I prolly wouldn’t have gone anyway. 🙂

  2. We have lost almost 50% of our graduating class (’62)but our 3 of our coaches made it. One in a wheel chair in bad shape bu the remembered us. Who could forget me? Too many hours in detention, I guess. And I am not an overly macho type, but I would not let anyone even know I owned a weapon painted like that. If I showed it and some comment about me being gay could get the bastard shot. Now I’d just hit him with my purse.

  3. Man, them’s braggin’ rights of 45 years. Geesh. In the voice of Darth…You are not my fathuh, but old enough to be. LOL. *running and ducking*

On another note…that is a scary gun. Even though I embrace pink and maybe some purple…it looks like R2D2 threw up on it. I guess no one but a color blind man would steal that thing. 🙂

  4. I stopped going to HS reunions when they started letting a bunch of old people attend. 🙂

  5. Congrats on 45 years! My 30 year was this summer but I played hooky with an old classmate and went prowling around Dallas instead of going to the reunion. I’ve promised I’ll go next year, or next. I haven’t been since the 10 year reunion soured me on the occasion for a couple decades. *shrug*

It’s surreal, who remembers you. It’s baffling and embarrassing when they remember you and you’re reaching for who they are. Thank goodness for name tags. Best thing to do is to have them take a pic of you together and ask them to email you the photo, and then you’ll have their name! Instantly if they have a smart phone and you do too. Devious, ain’t I? 😛

  6. I never go to any of my renuions. If i haven’t talked to them in the 26 years since my graduation, why would I want to talk to them now…lol
but, over the years I have seen some of them, and do find it so darn funny that the cheerleader, popular girls, are now overweight and divorced several times and look like crap. karma has a way of catching up!

  7. Was never interested in going.

    That last pic … hurt.

  8. My friends from High School I see from time to time. Not interested in seeing the others. Glad you enjoyed yours, and I hope you had some eyewash after seeing the Glock.

  9. Ed- One is an important piece of history, mine… not so much… 🙂

    Buck- LOL, Understood…

CP- Yep, scary when they coach remembers ya… And while ‘I’ wouldn’t carry it, I’m not going to argue with Bill! Hell, he’s a 8 or 9 time national champion…

Fargo- If I could catch you… sigh… And I’ll tell him that! LOL

GR6- So you went to the 5th… 🙂

Phlegmmy- LOL, not a bad idea!

JUGM- Heard that, and same thing here… Karma IS interesting 45 years later! I do stay in touch with a few folks, they are now old friends…

drjim- LOL, one of them is… 🙂

    PH- Sorry… 🙂

WSF- Some of them I don’t care either. And I laughed at the Glock too!

  10. Homer Garrison was my father in laws captain of Company D when he was a Texas Ranger. Thanks for the pics of the museum and some of it’s contents.

  11. Mel- You’re more than welcome. I just wish the pictures would do justice… It’s a fantastic glimpse into history!

  12. 45 huh? Where did the time go? And you’re right about how some people change. I look pretty much the same, add 20 pounds and crows feet but still running around in hiking boots, Levi’s and a button down shirt most days. I’m glad you had a good time Jim – you’ve earned it.

  13. So what did you get voted for in your high school yearbook – “Most Likely to be Caught in the Girl’s Locker Room” or “Best Taste in Footwear”?

  14. Brigid- I can vouch for you not changing much in the 20+ years I’ve known you! 🙂

    Dammmit- Yeah, right…LOL

    Mr.C- Heh… Neither… 🙁

  15. I do not attend I was glad to be away from the a-holes.
I last picture almost made my eyes bleed.

  16. 58 for me and there were only 5 of us. Far as I know we are all still above ground. We didn’t have class reunions, we had school reunions and usually about 70-80 grads and spouses showed up for all the way back to 1933 when the school was built!
