I’ll just have to apologize…

I never wanted to go to Captcha or anything else, but frankly, I’m getting overwhelmed with spam..

I get 800-1000 hits a day average, and I’ve been getting as many as 600 spam hits a day since I posted THIS post. I’m sorry but I just can’t deal with trying to sort through that many spams everyday to try to find the one or two comments that inadvertently end up in the spam bucket…

I hope y’all will understand, and if you drop me, I understand that too…

Sorry ’bout that…

And these two cartoons from Townhall.com pretty much say it all…

Ramirez and Kelly are great cartoonists and manage to get to the ‘root cause’ with a few simple lines…

  1. No complaints here about you fighting the SPAM. We all have to do something like this at times. Spammers are just too smart and need to be shot when found. Sorry, dude, you will have to do more that this to get rid of me.

  2. Not going anywhere! I know quality when I see it! Seriously looking forward to your next book too!

  3. Even a captcha doesn’t stop all of them. I recently broke down and signed up with a WordPress plugin “Anti-spam by CleanTalk”, I have to pay $8/year for it, but so far they’ve not gotten a single REAL comment into the spam bucket, and I’ve only had ONE spam comment make it over to me to be “verified or spammed” since I started with it. I wasn’t thrilled to go with a paid service, but even my much smaller and less popular blog gets a massive amount of spam, I can’t imagine the amounts you get!

  4. I, for one, welcome the rise of our new robot Overlords.
If only to pin on four stars to each of my collar points and pronounce myself CINC-RESISTANCE

No worries on my end, either.

  5. I had to do it, too. No worries. It does make a difference. Damn Spam. I thought it was a food product?

  6. Blogger does a great job of catching spam, hardly any spammers get through Blogger’s filter… and I get a LOT of attempts.

No worries about the captcha thingie. One does what one must.

  7. Here I thought I had finally gotten to be one of the popular people with my little blog and now you tell me it’s just spammers…sigh
    I am not a robot!

  8. No good deed goes unpunished. Clearly the spammers have decided that you need to be punished.
What is needed is a nuclear reply to spammers that will melt down their servers, vaporize their computers and castrate the perpetrators. When that is all completed, THEN proper punishment will be decided upon.

  9. I went to DISQUS in order to fight spam and to be able to keep current with comments. It’s a better system than recaptcha.

  10. Why would we leave your blog because you changed your blog to stop spammers. Everything is cool.

  11. Will not leave your sight!!! Look forward to it every day.
“The Grey Man,Paybacks” FANTASTIC I want MORE!!!

  12. Roger- Agreed!

Euripides- Probably what I should have done…sigh

    Senior- Thanks!

Ed- Trying to knock down the spammers… sorry

FRed- Thank you sir! Working on it!

    • I understand, but I noticed the behavior before the captcha, which in this checkbox form (which I’ve never seen before) is unobstrusive.

  13. I don’t even have a blog and my email has been inundated with that crap. Tis the season I guess.

  14. Hey Old NFO,

I havn’t had a SPAM problem, I guess I ain’t one of the popular kids yet. I guess I will hit the big time when I start getting SPAM;)

Don’t worry, we ain’t gonna drop you…unless you all of a sudden start worshiping Obungler and the democrats.
