Tis the season…

For GRILLING!!!

This is a cautionary tale, and worth the few minutes to watch if you’re one that grills on a regular basis…

I stopped using a grill brush a few years ago, and use the ‘sponge’ type cleaners now. Luckily, I never had this problem.

  1. So one dumbass doesn’t know how to clean a grill and we are all supposed to panic and throw away wire brushes? When I clean my grill, I don’t leave little wires on it to contaminate my food.

Looks to me like a “journaist” needed to come up with a story and reported on a rare event from his own life as if we all need to worry about it. I expect next week this same doofus to warn us that ladders are dangerous and show us his x-rays from when he fell off his roof last year after cleaning the gutters.

  2. Ok. What’s a little metal? Huh? I hug my rifle. Same thing.

  3. I have that same grill! Two actually, one is a slightly bigger one. IMO scrub with the “grain” of the grill along the “tines” instead of cross-grain – but a spongey-thing might be a good idea. I don’t like the rust either.

  4. We switched to a spongy scrub brush a couple years ago, to preserve the porcelain finish on the grill. But we always rinse the grill after cleaning, so wire bristles haven’t been a problem.

  5. You mean this guy just scrapes off the old food then throws on the new food? What about the caked on food dust that’s still on the grill from the wire brush he just used? Who (besides Rev. Paul and myself) doesn’t rinse that crap off? Will there be a follow-up next week on the dangers of leaving potato salad out in the sun?

    • Mrs. Crankipants,
I figure the heat from the burners do a fine job sterilizing the leftover food dust for the next go-round, and add a little flavor besides. Why waste water???
      🙂

  6. I’ve always washed the grill, and all of us reading this are still here…
But I have to hand it to Dufus, he found a way to get his medical bills paid via his expense acct.

  7. I use the pumice stone shown in the video. Works just fine, altho you do need to rinse/wipe the grill after using it.

  8. All- Thanks. Working on the house, no time to answer individually. Thanks!

  9. Evidently, this is the trending thing now. FOX news just had on a TV doctor to warn of the dangers of this. TV doc also noted that charing the meat causes cancer. So, don’t do that. And don’t leave the potato salad out in the sun. And use sun screen, but not around the grill, cause it will explode. And check your hoses for gas leaks using soapy water so that there isn’t a leak that explodes and kills you. And cook the meat long enough, but not too long and he can’t tell you how long that is because he might be wrong.

  10. About a year ago, Wife got done grilling, handed me a burger hot off the grill. I took a bite, got a sharp pain in my gums. Thought “bone” at first, till I pulled out a piece of stainless steel wire, about 1″ in length. From the grill cleaning brush.
    Yes folks, it can happen.
Yes folks, our media blows the problem out of proportion.
