I know…

I’m back in the South when I see this…

IMG_2351I’ve been a tad busy this week working on my place, so I’m sorry for the lack of comments and postings.  Thankfully friends gave me a place to sleep and fed me, and pitched in to help me fix doors… Sigh…

If I EVER mention renting my place again, somebody just shoot me…

I know… — 19 Comments

  1. I was an absentee landlord for a few years. It was one huge PITA. Although things worked out well overall, I was thrilled when I finally sold the place.

  2. When I see Karo Syrup, I think of its best and most proper use…making pecan pies.

  3. You have to keep up the skillset, or you’ll be worthless when you retire… they told me. It isn’t so! You’re just slower on the repeat.

  4. Repairs after tenants go has always been an issue, and I doubt that will change. Even the best of them (rare) leaves things which must be fixed/repainted when they’ve gone. My experience after more than a dozen years of residential and commercial property management is “don’t rent your own place to anyone, ever”. While that may not be practical advice for everyone, it’s worked quite well for me.

  5. Whenever my wife is angry at me she chides me that we could have rented-out our place and made a freaking butt-load of money, but that ~I~ refused to play land-lord because I said I had no head or knowledge for that kind of thing, like working retail. It’s galling.
I remember Karo when we returned from overseas it was a sign, a taste of civilization! Light and dark on pancakes dad cooked on the griddle…

  6. Well, that’s a little extreme don’t you think? How about just a bitch slap? 😉

  7. The only real way to make money as a landlord is to have a lot of rental properties. Then, if you have a really sucky tenant, the income from the other properties gets you through the eviction and repairs.

If you have one or two rental properties, a couple of bad tenants can wreck things financially.

And screen tenants… always, always, always.

  8. And in the south, mayonnaise is considered the normal condiment for a hamburger. Just not by me.

  9. All- Thanks for the comments… Still beating on the trash and cleanup… Sigh

    Posted from my iPhone.

  10. Karo! I remember poring it into a dish and sopping it up with bread back in the day.

  11. My sympathies! Yeah, no matter how well you screen the tenants, you usually have to patch the walls, repaint a little, and clean the carpet if not swap it out. Renting houses you wanted to buy and live in is a tough gig, because you feel much more emotionally attached and annoyed at the wear and tear.

And Karo… ah, to heck with this low carb diet. I think I need a stack of waffles with some now.

  12. Keads et al- Oh yeah, but I STILL liked black strap better! 🙂 Karo is for pecan pies! 😀

    Dot- Thanks… sigh…

  13. Green label Karo on pancakes, over ice cream, and sopped up by biscuits.
    Thanks Mom.

  14. Dad kept Karo syrup for pancakes. My brother and I never liked the stuff.

The last place I rented I made enough improvements that the landlord wanted me to stay when I bought my own place.
