Stir crazy…

So… After sitting in the house for 2 1/2 days, resting my twisted knee, I NEEDED some human interaction…

I called up Tina, who’s my go to for my book covers, and said can I come buy y’all lunch… I don’t think she believed me at first…

So yesterday morning I’m up and out the door shooting for a noon arrival (plus possibly an hour depending on I-95…) I actually made it only 15 minutes late…

We went to what is supposedly the oldest continuously family owned italian restaurant in the USA, it’s been there since 1900, called Ralph’s (Named for the baby boy apparently)… And in the same location since 1915! It’s in a little enclave of ‘Italian’ shops, groceries, and a former Italian neighborhood…

Neapolitan fare, and it was EXCELLENT!!! And way too much food… sigh

Also, Tina gifted me a loaf of homemade pesto bread…

Pesto bread

If you follow their blog, you know she loves to cook, and it’s GOOD! Much like Brigid, if I were married to either one of them, I’d weigh 400 lbs…

Pardon me, I’ll be in the kitchen making toast…

  1. This is amazing for a food service be open that long. So I bet the name ‘Ralph’ didn’t come from the sound one hears from the bathroom after a good meal there. And there are few things that taste better than warm, fresh bread.

    • It must be the neighborhood – we have a pastry shop that opened in 1904, a butcher shop in 1911, a bread bakery in 1906, and a kitchenware store in 1918 – all but one are family owned and operated!

  2. Sorry to hear of your impaired mobility.

Ditto on Brigid. In her defense, most of what she writes about is very healthy when eaten in sane amounts. Sadly, everything sounds so delicious that “sane amounts” would not happen. At least not for me.

  3. Anytime you’re feeling peckish for Italian, and are crazy enough to drive 146 miles – I’m game! It was a lovely lunch, good company, great stories, thanks again!

  4. Durned if I can figure out how you stay as trim as you are, given the quantities of food you’re exposed to. 🙂

  5. CP/Mrs.C- Yep, quite different!

ERJ- Yep, PITK… knee, that is…

gfa- Couldn’t pass it up! 🙂

    MRs.C- LOL, Enjoyed it!

    Rev- If pear is a shape, I’m there… 🙂

  6. I really don’t think it is fair for you to post that stuff unless you have enough for every body. Didn’t you get taughted the Golden Rules when you were younger? LOL

  7. Looks delicious! My low-carb intake has kept me below 200, but there’s a farmstand brick-oven bakery out by Gold Hill that makes delicious bread, hot out of the oven at 10:00AM on Saturdays – so sometimes we splurge on carbs.
Used to go to a place in the City that made fish, been open since 1849, first as a coffee-stand, then a restaurant, and in the same location now since 1913. The Tadich Grill, the only place to go eat in SF.
