  1. Other facts:
    1. If you live long enough, something is going to kill you.
    2. If you live long enough, you will get cancer … somewhere.
    3. If you live long enough, and you are a guy, you will have prostate trouble.
    4. If you live long enough and get prostate problems, they very likely won’t be your only problems.

The solution is obvious. Stop living so damned long.

  2. thanks, hope this reaches some. you know how we men are. I found out pretty early and may have save my life.

  3. Speaking as a longtime administrator of a urology clinic, I have to point out that another consideration is *how* you die. Undiagnosed/untreated prostate cancer tends to metastasize (spread) to the skeletal system. Death from metastatic bone cancer (and there is no cure, and few treatment options, at that point) may not be the absolutely worst and most painful form of slow death, but it would rank right up there with whatever is. I’ve seen far too many men die that way.

Get checked. The momentary discomfort of a digital rectal exam and/or assault on your “dignity” is literally nothing compared to many months of agony and likely paralysis as the cancer eats up your spine.

    • +1!!

Speaking as a Home care nurse who did Hospice care for years, I can think of 4 guys right off the top of my head who died of Prostate Cancer…every one of them said they wished they had gotten checked sooner, but they didn’t want to go through the embarrassment. So instead they were going through the extreme pain. And putting their families through it as well. It hurts to watch your loved one die, even with lots of pain meds on board. Get checked!!!

      Went and donated NFO.

  4. Prof/LL- Yep can’t disagree… But… see GR6 comment

    Randy- Thanks! Boosting the signal.

    GR6- Agreed!

  5. Cancer sucks. Great cause! I love that fund raising event. Very worthy.

  6. 5. If you discover or suspect you have any form of cancer (including prostate or testicular), DO NOT WAIT FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT AT THE VA TO GET “FREE” TREATMENT.

  7. 6. It would not surprise me at all to discover that repeatedly stabbing your prostate with an index finger causes prostate failure and cancer.

    7. I can see no medical purpose to giving 17 year olds digital prostate exams, yet your US military routines does this.

  8. 5. If you discover or suspect you have any form of cancer (including prostate or testicular), DO NOT WAIT FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT AT THE VA TO GET “FREE” TREATMENT.

    6. It would not surprise me at all if we some day discover that repeatedly stabbing your prostate with an index finger causes them to fail and get cancer.

  9. Sorry for double posting. Stupid Archaic browser and incompatible firewall.

  10. Suz- Thanks! 🙂

    Fargo- Thanks!!!

Prof- No problem, and your points NEED repeating! GET FRIKKIN CHECKED!!!

  11. Yep, I get my PSA checked a couple of times a year (I have BPH. “Flowmax” is a Godsend!), and “get the finger” yearly.

And I just kicked in $10 for Team Old NFO…..

  12. I’m probably not going to be around long enough to worry about it.
I get checked via a “FIT” test yearly – the anal probe is unnecessarily dramatic, but picturesque.
I’ve repeatedly donated in the past to a couple of prominent bloggers and never been acknowledged.
My Anglo-Englishman 14% side would kill my Scottish 14% side without hesitation and torch his village and rape all his women.
My grandpa had it, and was 99 when he died…of pneumonia brought on by kidney failure – and the doctors refused to treat him because they were ignorant fucks and DIDN’T KNOW HOW-TO, because he was so-old he off-their-charts, and they just let him go.
