Col. Carlyle Harris was a prisoner of war for 2,871 days during the Vietnam War.He is credited with introducing ‘tap code,’ a form of communication that he and his fellow brothers in arms used to relay secret messages.This is his story as told by Airman Magazine

The actual code was a 5X5 square of letters. The missing letter was K, for which C was inserted.

  1. Now you let the secret out… And some North Korean is making his bones by presenting the Yankee secret code to Kim Jong Un.

    The code works and it’s easy to remember on over, three down, etc.

  2. I was an Instructor in the Faetulant Det 1 SERE school in Brunswick Me from ’62 till ’66 but the code hadn’t been heard of at that time. Guess it came a little later! But later on we were all apprised of it and how it worked in case we wound up swimming in the Me Kong and guests of the LYB
