Strange things one finds in attics and shoeboxes…

I cannot imagine being able to watch my own bailout sixty years later! Kudos to those brave men who flew into harms way, and the sailors who saved those they could…

Video has been removed due to autoplay… Sorry

  1. Amazing. And he was still holding the ripcord when they pulled him out of water.

  2. Of course he was — that was the tradition!

But kudos, too, to the submariners who sailed the plane guard duty — not easy, somewhat risky, kind of boring, but — they were there.

  3. John/LL- Yep! I’ve heard of more than one case where people ‘kept’ the ripcord!

    Ian- Amen to that!

  4. With all the damage the plane took, it is amazing that all 12 survived. Just not their day to meet their maker. BZ to the sub crew, too.

  5. I couldn’t make out what he was saying, but was that a Catalina he bailed out of? OBTW I still have my ripcord from the old seat pack chute!

  6. Ev- He bailed out of a B-29! And I don’t blame you, if I’d ever had to do that, I’d probably STILL have the D-ring in my hand! 🙂

  7. Well I didn’t do it consciously, It was because I guess I thought it was my last link with something solid!

Looked at the video a bunch more times and that plane looks to have been a parasol type or upper wing config. just as it rolled right before crash. 🙂
