Is it time to stop being PC?

I was at the hospital yesterday for outpatient surgery and saw two young punks jostle and elderly white man and laugh about it as they went merrily on their way…

Is this what we have come to??? Is this really where we want our country to go???

There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans,Arab Americans, Native Americans, etc
….And then there are just -Americans.

You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You Call me “White boy,” “Cracker,” “Honkey,” “Whitey,” “Caveman,”
…And that’s OK.

But when I call you anything,
…You call me a racist.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Hispanic History Month. You have Martin Luther King Day. You have Asian History Month. You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day. You have Ma’uled Al-Nabi. You have Yom Hashoah. You have Kawanza. You have the NAACP. And you have BET.

If we had WET(White Entertainment Television)
…We’d be racists.

If we had a White Pride Day
…You would call us racists.

If we had White History Month
…We’d be racists.

If we had any organization for only whites to “advance” our lives,
…We’d be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce.Wonder who pays for that?

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships
…We’d be racists.

There are over 60 openly-proclaimed Black-only Colleges in the US, yet if there were “White-only Colleges”
…THAT would be a racist college.

In the Million-Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.
If we marched for our race and rights,
…You would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and red, and you’re not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our white pride
…You call us racists!

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer who is running from the LAW and posing a threat to ALL of society
…You call him a racist.

I am proud.
…But, you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists?

What if I choose to no longer let people walk over me; but stand up and demand my rights as a human being, and refuse to submit to the politically correct crowd?

Now what???

Late entry- I just got a call from a friend of many years who related an interesting story after reading this post.

He was born in Cape Town, South Africa and emigrated to the US as a child and became a naturalized citizen. When he went in the Marine Corps, he was filling out one of the ‘thousand and one’ forms, which asked for demographic information. Since he had been born in Africa, he selected African-American as his demographic group. He was hauled in front of a black Gunny Sargent who read him the riot act, saying he would be punished for lying on forms, yada, yada, yada. My friend did not understand what he had done wrong, tried to explain it, and according to him the Gunny pulled his arm down next to the Gunny’s and asked- What color am I? His answer, black. What color are you? White. Then according to the Gunny, he could not be African American, since he was not black… even though he was born there… go figure…

  1. *Snigs Applauds!

I couldn’t have said it better NFO. There are quite a few people in this great country who need to come to the realization that racism is racism, no matter what color mouth it is being spouted from.

I could go on and on, but I’m not. You said it best. Of course this is coming from an “old white bitch” as I’ve been called so many times by disgruntled patients when I tell them they cannot get another appointment with us because they failed to show up for the last 5 they made.

  2. Understood Snigs… Guess I’m just getting grumpy in my old age. I was raised in the South, grew up playing with kids of all different colors because we lived in the country. I didn’t know about racism till I got in the Navy.

  3. Beyond the racists aspect of what the punks did to the older gentleman, it is also an example of how our society lacks civility, period.

I, too, am African-American. I can’t check that one off, either.

When I tell people my grandfather’s family goes back two to three generations in South Africa, they look at me a bit confused. Stupid people. (My grandfather would be well-over 100 by now, too. That’s going way-back. And yes, his family were farmers.)

  4. I too was raised around one family of black kids out here on this little rock. There were a couple of other single folks around, though. I ate at those kids house, slept in the same bed with them when overnighting, fought with them, played with them, loved them as members of my own family. Never once did I ever hear the dreaded “n” word. Then I too joined the Navy and came into contact with people whom I could not understand! The way they talked, acted, and the demeanor was truly alien to this young hick form BI. Over the years though, I made some really good friends that are black and we still are in contact. It is ALL in the way THEY were brought up. Local living conditions are a part of the problem, but can be overcome by using your head to get ahead instead of just sitting around bitchin’ about how “whitey keeps me down”! I’ll quit now. Great Post!

  5. Years ago, I had to attend a “Cultural Diversity” seminar because my company seemed to think it was necessary to explain to me the importance of respecting others culture, morals, religions etc. During the seminar all races, persons of color, etc. were discussed. All EXCEPT mine. I am white. I have no color. Apparently I have no culture either. I don’t have any traditional dances, forms of dress, no traditions that come from my particular race. Why? Because my lineage is from Ireland, Scotland, and England. I’m a mixed breed! Anyhow…. I grew up not recognizing the different colors of peoples skin, only the differences between “kind” and “mean”. Thanks for a great post!

  6. Ev and Firefox, thanks for the comments! I remember that cultural diversity stuff- Just another way to get a day off for doing nothing!

  7. I am of a European and Native American background, am I Native American? am I european American? Nope I’m an American, ie: a Mutt (Thanks Bill Murray) People need to get off the label and just be Americans.

  8. Mark, You have hit the nail on the head and are EXACTLY RIGHT about the whole damned ?????-American bullshit! If you have lived here your ENTIRE life, then you are not a ????- anymore! It is about time for ALL the people of this country to recognize that simple thought!!!

  9. Ok did you hear that sound? That was my head exploding. Thats what this sh*t does to me. Next week I have been informed my platoon has to go to EEOC training. Funny isn’t it? Firefighters who can’t get any real training being forced to waste time with this crap. I’ll be posting about it.

  10. Mark- thanks for chiming in!
CA- you expected something like REAL training??? Com’on… You gotta get all the PC checks in the box before you can do any REAL training that might actually save yours or someone else life!
    sigh…

I am amazed at the number of emails I’ve received callimg me racist for posting this! All I did was ask some questions… 🙂

  11. I think Maddox said it best when he proclaimed Americans to be arrogant little shits for unassuming that all black people come from Africa, and also for assuming that all black people in America are American.

Specifically, he used the example of a black person from the UK. Americans would, no doubt call him “African-American”, although he is neither.

  12. Good point Ghost! And you are exactly right… Too many assumptions and too many sterotypes have become the PC ‘code’ today.
