Tiger Woods Speech…

Tiger Woods accepted the invitation to speak at the inauguration…….. But he didn’t deliver the message his inviters had expected!

Tiger Woods spoke Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington during “We Are One,” an inauguration celebration for President-elect Barack Obama. Below is the text of his speech, entitled “You’ll Never Walk Alone” as posted on his Web site:

I grew up in a military family — and my role models in life were my Mom and Dad, Lt. Colonel Earl Woods. My dad was a Special Forces operator and many nights friends would visit our home. They represented every branch of service, and every rank.

In my Dad, and in those guests, I saw first hand the dedication and commitment of those who serve. They come from every walk of life. From every part of our country. Time and again, across generations, they have defended our safety in the dark of night and far from home.

Each day — and particularly on this historic day — we honor the men and women in uniform who serve our country and protect our freedom. They travel to the dangerous corners of the world, and we must remember that for every person who is in uniform, there are families who wait for them to come home safely.

I am honored that the military is such an important part, not just of my personal life, but of my professional life as well. The golf tournament we do each year here in Washington is a testament to those unsung heroes. I am the son of a man who dedicated his life to his country, family and the military, and I am a better person for it.

In the summer of 1864, Abraham Lincoln, the man whose memorial we stand, spoke to the 164th Ohio Regiment and said:”I am greatly obliged to you, and to all who have come forward at the call of their country.”Just as they have stood tall for our country — we must always stand by and support the men and women in uniform and their families.

Thank you, and it is now my pleasure to introduce the U.S. Naval Glee Club.

You know he was greatly pressured to be there. You know the liberals have been mad at him for a decade for not joining their ranks. You know he didn’t want to be there. So instead of paying homage to Obama, he paid tribute to our soldiers. Not one time did Tiger mention Obama or the inauguration or the new administration. You know, he knew he would disappoint, even anger, many, many liberals. but Tiger is his own man. His old man taught him to be his own man. Somewhere in that cold, gray Washington sky, old Earl was smiling down on his son.

Good on ya Tiger!

  1. I venture to say he wasn’t looking down but probably standing proudly at his son’s shoulder with one arm across his back.

It is a testament to the US Military men and women that so few fall away from the traditions long standing. They may be highlighted but, there are so few, that the libral MSM has to beat a dead horse long after its hamburger.

I read a story that detailed the military from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and both Gulf Wars. It compared how the population responded to troops of other countries when they saw them.

In the two world wars and Korea, Russian, German, Japanese, Chinese and other troops were feared. The populations fled or hid from them and felt they brought death, rape and plundering to thier homes.

British, Aussie and American troops were weclomed, even demanded many times because they brought peace, security and help to the places they came.

Even in Iraq and Afganistan today, many of the people see the American Flag and the men and women that wear it on thier shoulders as godsends.

It is a sad testament to see so many people that are citizens by birth treat not only Old Glory shamefully, but the men and women who fight under her and for them as well.

I read where a woman an airport in New York City spat on two men simply because when she asked if they were in the military (they were in civies) they said yes.

My first reaction was I would have probably slapped the hell out of her because I know they never would.

That may be wrong, but I come from a military family too, one that has lost far to many defending people like that.

Kudos to Tiger! Wish more would stand up and just say NO to this liberal BS.

  2. I like Tiger Woods even more now!!!! Way to go and to honor our troops as well as his father, instead drooling all over Hussein!! I am sure that left BHO really really pissed off!

  3. My wife and I have always been Tiger fans. My wife has a copy of Tiger’s testament made at father’s funeral some years ago.

    First class all the way.

  4. Excellent. I’m glad to hear of a celebrity not drooling all over “you-know-who”.

  5. SIm- It’s the same old deal… America is at war, and most Americans are at the mall! sigh…

Everybody else- Yes, Tiger is one of the good guys! I was lucky enough to be able to attend the first AT&T National he sponsored, and I personally watched him take time (away from the press), to talk with the troops, especially the folks who came over from Walter Reed. This is something he almost never does. He was walking around without any security, and genuinely interested in the people there. He IS proud of America and proud of or troops.

  6. I’d gotten sorta annoyed with Woods, for a few near temper tantrums I saw him pitch. However, I’m willing to put those out of my mind after reading this.

  7. Sniggle,

Just chalk it up to Tiger being human, we all have moments we ain’t none to proud of when hindsight smacks us one.

I can remember when he decided “dad” was cramping his style of golf play…and he dismissed the old boy.

He game cratered. Well, for him. Went from untouchable to losing…

He brought dad back, swallowed his pride and gave a good “Sorry Dad.” Dad brushed it off and they got back to business…

Now he can be darn near untouchable again.

Remarkable what one can do when the head is on straight and aint the size of Texas….unlike another gentleman of darker skin toned persuasion I heard speak last night…meph…

  8. Snigs- When you are dealing with a perfectionist, that is what you get. Sim has it right in his response.

    ADM – Yep

Sim- Yes, he did admit he was wrong and turned things around.
