Shuttle Launch…

First, NO I didn’t take the picture…
But I sure as hell wish that I had, I’d at least be at someplace fun!!!
From a friend, the Shuttle Discovery going up over Cinderella’s Castle at Disney this morning… The streak is the shuttle during the time delay of the photo. Enjoy!!!

The second shot is the contrail of the shuttle after the wind picked it apart, and the sun is highlighting it…

And we’re throwing this and any future capability away…. sigh…

Y’all have a good week, ya hear!!!

Shuttle Launch… — 13 Comments

  1. Great shots!

But Obama said that we need to take over health care and student loans and just let NASA worry about global warming. Giving our money to the poor is more important than developing new technology via the space program.

  2. I think I missed the shuttle launches when I lived in Satellite Beach and my dad was stationed at Patrick AFB, but I’m pretty sure some rockets went up a few times while I lived there. 1974-1979.

    Thanks for the amazing pictures!

  3. Beautiful photos.

Regarding NASA: I suspect that within the next ten years we’ll see the private sector start to pick up the slack, if they’re permitted to do so of course. Much as I appreciate the science going on in the ISS, just imagine what 3M or DuPont could do with a materials lab up in stationary orbit….

  4. Sad that this is one of the few last launching of this country’s greatest achievement since the Apollo missions to the moon. I remember as a kid watching a shuttle take off in Cape Canaveral, it was breath taking and awe inspiring.

What happen to that America? Where we could do anything, like putting men on the moon.

Perhaps the private sector will pick up the tab,and carry on in the spirit men who believe nothing is impossible.

  5. The US space program reduced to hitchhiking with the Ruskies!

Mr. Putin can you give us ride to the Space station? We’ll pay for gas.

    Sorry f*%king state of affairs.

    Gerry

  6. BEAUTIFUL Picture!! I’m supposed to be going up for the next day launch.

Been here 20 years and have failed to get my butt up there. Now I HAVE to.

Such a shame they’re letting the program go. Makes me sad whats happening in all sectors of this country.

  7. Wonderful sight. The last launch of the Shuttle is at the end of September—the 27th, IIRC. After that, we’ll have to use our thumbs. Obama needs to be removed from office solely based on cutting Orion.

His actions today warrant impeachment and conviction.

  8. All- The shuttle IS something special… I’ve seen the best and the worst of it, but that’s another post. I don’t know that commercial entities are willing to spend the BILLIONS of $$ necessary to actually advance the program, and like anything else, once the skills of the literally Rocket Scientists and teams get broken up, they cannot and will not be reconstituted and we will have ceded any leadership in space… sigh…
