Bring a Hankie… — 14 Comments

  1. NE- Sorry, but I’ve seen a total of ONE video in the past three months and that was on Fox that I happened to catch in passing… I don’t watch PSNBC so I wouldn’t have seen that anyway.

I’ll be TRULY happy to not inject politics as soon as there is actually unbiased reporting from ALL the networks.

  2. @ NFO- Thanks for that!
@ NE- Last I heard it’s his blog, he can say want he wants.

  3. Old NFO, I keep pretty close tabs on the major networks and I see homecomings all the time. They don’t get reported as much as !Royal Wedding! but they aren’t trying to hide them or anything. I’m actually pretty surprised at how much I see them considering how so much of the nation normally couldn’t give a crap about the wars.

Keads, I do not have the want nor the ability to censor anything Old NFO writes. However, if I see something being misrepresented I’ll speak my mind and support it with facts.

  4. @ NE- As you see fit, so do. I am just pointing out that this is his forum. I do enjoy intellectual discourse, but at the end of the day we are all welcome to our own opinions. Just as you have expressed. As have I and NFO.

  5. “Bring a Hankie…”

Nominee for this year’s Most Appropriate Headline for a Post – I was tearing up about 10 seconds into it.

    re: the frequency of homecoming videos – the dates associated with the links @NE provided are, in order;

    CNN – 9/23/10
    CBS – 8/19/10
    MSNBC1 – 4/23/11
    MSNBC2 – 2/19/06
    MSNBC3 – 4/22/04
    Fox1 – 1/6/11
    Fox2 – 10/27/10

Not exactly weekly, but not exactly never, either.

So why don’t we all just settle for “stuff you see occasionally on the MSM” and, like NE suggests, just be happy for the troops and their loved ones.

Just my $.02 worth. Feel free to ignore or disagree as you see fit…

  6. It is not so much about the happiness of the Marines/Sailors/Soldiers/Airmen, as it is the expressions of total love and joy on the faces of those kids!!! Been there, seen that!

  7. I agree. WSF- Thank your child on my behalf for his service. I pray for their safe return.

  8. I remember when my niece came home from Iraq. I’m her “dad” figure.
She got in earlier than planned and I was the only one there for the moment.
She just dropped everything and ran and jumped. Glad I caught her.
Nice post, NFO. Off to the store for more kleenex.

  9. No one to see them off, no one to meet them when they get back. Hmm, seems like the military members are moving faster than the media can catch up. Hope their family touches them, their friends are watching, and we never forget. I met my neice at the airport twice on her rotations, it was good, no press but the meeting mattered.

  10. Hi Jim, I’m borrowing this one…. and if I can remember how… will link back to your terrific blog!
