Aviators…

An old one, it came around again today, and it’s worth posting…

This was written before there were any female aviators on active duty, so it’s not PC, but it DOES apply to aviators PERIOD…

Aviators

Once the wings go on, they never come off whether they can be seen or not.
It fuses to the soul through adversity, fear and adrenaline and no one who has ever worn them with pride, integrity and guts can ever sleep through the `call of the wild` that wafts through bedroom windows in the deep of the night.
When a good pilot leaves the `job’ and retires, many are jealous, some are pleased and yet others, who may have already retired, wonder.
We wonder if he knows what he is leaving behind, because we already know.
We know, for example, that after a lifetime of camaraderie that few experience, it will remain as a longing for those past times.
We know in the world of flying, there is a fellowship which lasts long after the flight suits are hung up in the back of the closet.
We know even if he throws them away, they will be on him with every step and breath that remains in his life.
We also know how the very bearing of the man speaks of what he was and in his heart still is.
Because we fly, we envy no man on earth.

We may have hung up the flight suit, but it’s funny how you really CAN spot aviators in a crowd; much like the bond among those that serve in the military regardless of country, there is an understanding and respect among aviators of all generations…

We are coming up on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I would ask that you remember it by flying your flags on your home, your car; hell, stick one on your office wall…

Lets cover the USA with flags like we did after 9/11, and show the world we have NOT forgotten…

  1. “Lets cover the USA with flags like we did after 9/11, and show the world we have NOT forgotten…”

    Yes! I agree. . .

  2. Either the U.S. flag or the Texas flag is always flying in front of our house.

We’re putting up a brand new one for September 11 this year.

    Stinking raghead camel jocks.

I still haven’t forgotten. Never will. REFUSE TO.

  3. Thanks for posting that…

At our home the flag has always been flown…along with a small candle light that has burned day and night for the past ten years.

  4. I’ll be out at-sea on 9/11, but I bought a new flag last week (AMERICAN made!), and my says she’ll fly it.

  5. My flag is always flying. But I like the idea of buying more…American made naturely. I have never been afraid to show my love of this country and the pride that I have for her. I don’t understand the people who do.

  6. Mine went up inside my Big Living Room Window at the End of Sept, 2001. It comes down for Spring Cleaning, then goes back up. It’ll come down Permanently only if I Die, Move or the House burns down.

  7. God bless the air dales!
I have 2 flags in my office. One on the wall and one in an Oak box folded in a triangle. It is from the ceremony of a fallen Veteran/friend who had no family. I keep it here in my office to remind and educate the many here who have not served the sacrifices that others have made!

My home has a Flag flying everyday! On days of remembrance I have 15 Flags about the property!

  8. 24/7 since before 9/11.
Lit brightly and a circuit from the emerg. genset goes there.
A new one is swapped out every three months.
    Ragheads can bring it.

  9. By the way, you’re one-hundred percent dead-on about aviators.

We envy no man (except other aviators who have cooler airplanes than us).
