Honestly, I’m not surprised…
Marriott has never, in my opinion, treated the military well. I had an incident with Marriott a number of years ago while still on active duty, where I was given a room by the Marriott in San Diego that was adjacent to the elevator and the A/C was not operable (in the middle of the summer). When I complained, I was told words to the effect of “What do you expect, you’re “military” and we can only charge you the per diem rate”. And Marriott is notorious for changing their ‘military’ rates to exactly the per diem rate, even if they have quoted a lower rate on a reservation.
I’ll go to a $39.95 Indian run motel that stinks of curry and Vendaloo before I’ll take a free room at a Marriott…
Excuse me, with my budget, you are describing my usual motel.
Agree with you about the Mariott. My last stay with them was in SoCal. Two hours after breakfast I was sick.
I’ve quit staying at Marriotts. This is just one more reason. They also have a corporate wide no-gun policy.
And besides, Indian food is tasty!

I switched to Holiday Inn years ago.
Guns-OK, everywhere-yes, upgrades-no prob, govt. discount-cool, only Hilton [in some cities] could beat them.

Actually, the best stories come out of independently-run motels. Flea-bags if you will. However, it’s hard to beat the stop-and-sleep chains near the airport.
I will not sleep in a Marriott. Been disappointed once too often.
