Cold War, my ass…

Another one from the mil-email net!

As we used to say in Aviation, “photos affirm”…

So here are a few photos…

An ‘innocent’ little fishing trawler, right???

It’s actually one of many Russian AGIs that we used to sight world wide attempting to ‘collect’ against us. ย This particular one used to hang out near Holy Loch, Scotland…

Hm… That Bow section looks a ‘bit’ weird…

Oh my, just look at that, I ‘wonder’ what those could be???

Oh, maybe a sonar dome and a torpedo tube???

Or TWO torpedo tubes…

Yep, peaceful fisherman, nothing to see here…

Cold war my ass!

And y’all wonder why we were on edge with these guys!!!

Cold War, my ass… — 10 Comments

  1. Along the lines of the 2nd Cav in the Fulda Gap taking rounds from East German Border Guards shooting at “escaping criminals”.

For some, the Cold War was a little warm.

  2. Yeah…that would be why a friend of mine spent months underwater in a nuclear submarine in waters we weren’t supposed to be in. They knew it could go hot in a moment.

  3. Hmmm. I CAN tell this one. Pulled into Chinhae, South Korea in October 80. Was in the middle of our FBM Deterrent Patrol aboard the old John Marshall (SSBN 611). South Korea was under Martial Rule at the time, and Jimmy Carter was TRYING to Grow a Spine. When I asked why we were being pulled off Patrol, I was told that we had to show the Kim Family and the Chicoms that we were still supporting our Allies. Pulled into port, got some Liberty and we seemed to be doing an Awful Lot of “Missile Hatch Maintenance” the whole time we were there. Message sent.

Also, I remember seeing in the News about the “Trawler” that was Stationed off the Straights of Juan de Fuca up by Seattle and Bremerton. Some American Fishing Boat caught it doing “maintenance” with the Surface-to-Surface Missile Box Launcher that was on its deck and took some pictures.

Remind me to tell you the next time we get together about crossing the Border into Hungary at 2 in the Morning back in ’74, and all the Lovely North Vietnamese Students we saw while we were there.

  4. Those guys used to come into Monterey Bay every time one of our ships would come close to Fort Ord. We at the Russian school were cautioned to keep away.

  5. Msgt- Um… ‘probably’ not… ๐Ÿ™‚

Julie- I wouldn’t put it past him!

    WSF- True…

    PH- I know nothing ๐Ÿ™‚

    Les- No comment! :-0

Andy- Problem is they STILL DO!!!

    DB- Yep, that they did…

  6. Their trawlers filled with millions of dollars of listening gear….gosh, those were the good old days when you knew the enemy was flying a flag.

  7. Merely for defense of brave Soviet crew from hostile imperialist aggression!
