A Tribute…

Got this one from a Retired Coastie Chief, and it’s well worth watching! This is for all those crazy bastards that jump out of helos to rescue folks…

And you can go HERE and read the Coast Guard losses… They prove the motto of Rescue- You have to go out, you don’t have to come back…

But I have to close with a funny story- Friend of mine was a Coastie SAR crewman back in the day; they used to go “practice” water landings out in the Atlantic on a routine basis, and when they did, he and the crew chief would take fishing poles and fish while they sat on the water!!!

  1. “Back in the day” my dad worked on HH-3C’s with eh airfare .. those could still water land and had to prove it every so often.. pop used to take a swimsuit and swim in the lake with they would practice it. ( this was in New Mexico… far from any ocean.

  2. Anon- Thanks for sharing that! Folks had fun when/where they could!

    Agirl- 🙂

    Danny- You’re welcome

AOA- Agree! They clank when they walk…

  3. What most Civvies don’t realize is that while they get Nights, Weekends and Holidays “Off,” the Coasties are “On” to protect them from themselves. Then they get a “break” to go over to the Persian Gulf and deal with the Iranians, or down to the Caribbean and the Gulf to take on Drug Smugglers. Hell of a way to spend a Career.

God Bless Them and keep Them Safe.

  4. Those are Sea Stallions or some variant, right? I didn’t think they were designed for water landing. Even with the ones meant for it, like the Sea Kings, doing so seems nuts if you ask me.
