Getting Old SUCKS…

So I finally get home and sleep in my own bed, not worrying about getting up every four hours to medicate the daughter, and what happens?

I don’t think I ever moved, and woke up this morning with one hellva crick in the neck… dammit…

So much for going to the range, if I can’t straighten my head up, not much point in trying to go shoot the new rifle.  Sigh…

So I’m cleaning it and checking the sight alignment, etc. and I notice this is NOT a NM rear sight, e.g. 1/2 min clicks vs. 1/4 min clicks, so off I go to try to find a new rear sight.  NOT easy, as there appear to be a lot of  ‘so called’ NM sights out there…

I called around and various folks pointed me to Creedmore and I finally found a real one at Creedmore Sports (HERE), Andy, if you happen to read this and are in the same situation, this is the real deal… And not a bad price either!!!

On another note- I went out to my favorite gun store to look for a spare sling for the HBar, and the store was slam full! I’ve seen them busy before, but today it was literally packed!  Men, women, kids, all in a buying mood; and I saw at least 6-7 cases of ammo going out the door.  Pistols seemed to be the biggest draw, but I saw families trying/discussing shotguns for home defense, and I did note the salespeople pointing out that a 20ga was just as effective and easier for a woman or younger child to handle, and they were recommending ALL get training. All I got was a brick of .22  sigh…

As y’all know, I’ve pretty much stayed away from the political commentary (Mainly to keep my BP down), but I’m sensing a real change in the silent majorities’ attitudes lately… And what is coming through is “we’re tired of this mess and we won’t put up with much more”. And they are voting with their wallets to buy guns, ammo and more importantly, training on how to use those tools…

And that is not just around here either, it’s happening and SC, AR, NC, and FL based on the calls I made this morning.  The critters in DC better look at their hole card and start turning this country around before it gets turned around FOR them…

Remember in November- Re-Elect NONE!

  1. Re: Voting for “None” will assure getting us four more years of ObamaNation. Unfortunately, come November 2012, it looks like once again the best that the Republican Party can offer for Election 2012 is another Hobson’s Choice between an over-spending Republican candidate going head-to-head with an over-spending Democrat.

I have seen this movie before…ala Daddy Bush v. Clinton in 1992, Dole v. Clinton in 1996, Baby Bush v. Gore in 2000, The Dubya’ster v. Kerry in 2004, and McCain v. Obama in 2008.

It looks like we Red, White & Blue, U.S. Constitution thumping conservatives, free-market capitalists will again be obliged, out of necessity, to hold our noses and vote for “The Lesser Of ‘Socialist Weevils’,” Mitt Romney.

Like it or not, come November 2012, it looks like we will be forced to vote for Massachusetts Socialist Governor, Mitt Romney of Massachusetts RomneyCare fame, in order to have a chance to turn Presidential Apologist-In-Chief, Marxist Obama out of office.

  2. I’m due for a trip to Cabellas next week. It’s usually wall-to-wall during Turkey and Deer seasons. I wonder how crowded it’ll be now during the slack time?

  3. Joseph-Dolores,
NFO didn’t say to “vote for none,” he said to RE-ELECT none. I personally will vote for ANYONE who is not currently in office, up to and including my neighbor’s dog. It no longer matters if we get 4 more years of Obama, because Romney is the very same person, with lighter skin.

You’re kidding yourself if you think 4 years of Mittens will be better than 4 more years of King O. We are waaaay past counting on either main party to do anything except run this country the rest of the way into the ground. The Repug’s are not better than the Dummo’s. Not one tiny bit.

  4. NFO, here’s a stupid question. How do you tell if it is 1/4 or 1/8 min? Mine isn’t marked. The windage knob has 10 clicks, I’m not sure about the elevation.

  5. JR- I think they’re testing the market, and trying to get ahead of the lead ban they feel is coming…

Joe- I’m not voting for ANY incumbent… And concur with the rest of your comment!

Crucis- I’m betting it will be crowded…

    Suz- Good point!

Andy- Simplest way is go shoot it at 100 yards off a rest. 4 clicks will either be 2 MOA (1/2), 1 MOA (1/4), or 1/2 MOA (1/8) Otherwise it’s digging out the calipers and measuring the threads…

    DC- yep…

  6. Everybody has a belief system.
Some people’s belief system says there is zero difference between Obama and Romney.
Other’s think that Obama is a great president.
I wonder where people get these ideas.
My belief is that when elected, Romney will preside in a far more conservative manner than Obama.
To not vote for Romney will guarantee four more years of Obama.
To vote for Romney will either ensure four more years of socialism or four years of retreat from the brink.
At least voting for him represents a chance of things getting better.

And with all respect to our host, I will vote for any candidate who has earned my vote, incumbent or not.

  7. Seems to come down to voting for the lesser of two evils. Voting out the incumbent means inexperienced evil takes the place of experienced evil. Net gain or lesser loss?

  8. Ed, I agree. We can’t tolerate four more years of Obama. ‘Course that doesn’t mean we can’t clean out some establishment trash at the same time. A non-Romney vote, if he’s the candidate is a vote for NO.

    NFO, Mrs. Crucis days, “Hi!”

  9. Don’t forget – this Nov. it’s not just a vote for the prez. The down-ballot choices are, IMO, much more important.

We saw in 2010 how ‘we the people’ can begin to change things. If right-minded people — that is, people who think like us 🙂 — are put into office then there is a chance of at least starting to turn things around.

  10. Ed- Understood, and I respect your approach too.

    WSF- I really don’t know…

Crucis- Good point, and say Hi back for me 🙂

DM- I did, and responded 🙂 VERY nice!

Tim- That is the direction I’m voting for. Getting rid of the professional fat cat pols and getting back citizen politicians.

  11. Getting older beats the snot out of the alternative, trust me.

I just don’t understand why we can’t get any better candidate than mittens, but I will end up voting for him, holding my nose the whole time. Even if he is Obama “lite” there is no way that he can be as damaging to the country as the light bringer would be for 4 more years. If Obama wins, he knows he can’t run again, thus he will do every thing that he hesitated to do in the first 4 years. He WILL rule like a emperor and stack the Supreme Court with “fellow travelers”. At least if Romney wins, he will behave himself for a while so that he can have a chance for reelection after the first term.

  12. I comment that I am no longer a “spring” chicken…I am now a “summer” chicken.
I have noticed that many people are buying weapons and ammo, the ranges are always full and there is another opening up near me that will be closer than the one off Frontage road and the farmers market. I gotta stock up on more ammo also. Will focus on 12 gauge though.

  13. Local ranges have extended their hours of operation. Classes are booked 6+ weeks out vs. 2 weeks last year.
Gun shop clerks confirm case lot ammo sales now the norm.
    Read this the other day:
“The election is in November. People are voting now.”

  14. I suspect that the gun store was full in honor of Cinco de Mayo. They wanted to buy up the inventory before ATF bought them out and sent everything south…

  15. @ Old NFO – RE: ‘Getting Old Sucks’… Entropy and the 2nd Law Of Thermodynamics is a bitch. This Golden Shellbacked ‘Skinny Dragon’ is a decade ahead of you. Shipmate, I am your ‘Canary…er-r-r…PATRON Pirate’s Parrot…In The Coal Mine,’ as it were. Trust vintage me on this; unlike fine wine, for oxygen consuming Homo Sapiens Erectus wandering the surface of the planet, it only gets worse with age not better. I hope it is better than this later in this Leap Year 2012 Of The ‘Skinny Dragon,’ after The Dark Rift Galactic Alignment, Fulfillment Of The Mayan 20121221 Prophecy, and The Christian Rapture happen.

Panetta, Obama, and a cabal of assorted Democrat and Republican Congressman and Senators (which includes ‘Vet Hugging’ Lindsey Graham [R-SC]) are currently scheming and cutting deals in the back rooms of the Capitol Building. This bipartisan ‘We Be Leavin’ Ya ¢ha-¢hing ¢hump ¢hange You ¢an Believe In’ gaggle be a comin’ after the ‘overly generous’ military retiree Tri¢are and Tri¢are For Life medical benefits via implementing and imposing Mean$ Te$ting, Premium Increa$e$, Pay Grade Tied Fee$, New Co-Pay$, et al, onto military medical benefits. They are doing this to trim the Defense Budget and cut the $15.7 Trillion National Debt on the backs of Lifer Vets.

These are Medical Bennies you will be needing to use more and more on a ‘Must-Have-‘Em-To-Keep-OldNFO-Going’ basis, after you pack it in from running the career ‘Rat Race’ Inside-The-Golden-Beltway and begin to start S.E.R.E Social Obscurity subsistance living solely off the fat of the land of this Brave, New ‘Bush-Is-To-Blame,’ Obama-ized United $ocialist $tates of Amerika (U$$R).

@ Suz – What Old NFO, Ed Bonderenka, Well Seasoned Fool, Crucis, and CenTexTim said, and what Michael W. said particularly well.

  16. Glad you made it home & hope your daughter continues to improve. Nothing beats sleeping in your own bed, even if it does put a crick in your neck. 😉

  17. Michael- No question… agreed!

MrG- Yep, seems like there are more and more opening, which I believe is GOOD! And I’m somewhere between summer and fall myself…LOL

    Stretch- Good point…

    LL- LOL, probably true!

Joe- True on all counts… Thanks

Snigs- Yep, sleep in longer than 3 hour increments IS good!

  18. Add New Hampshire to that list too. I noticed another gun shop opening in the sw NH region yesterday. That make net plus three in two adjacent towns in the past 18 months. I suspect opening a new shop with all the .gov bs that goes with it is not a decision made lightly. I also think more new shops take the mystery and stigma out of guns to the general population.
