I’m thankful that of my Dad, my uncles, my many nephews and nieces and my friends, all came home alive. And I have Someone I’m thankful to.
I was told a long time ago that Memorial Day is for the brave people that did not come home and Veterans Day is for those that did. I would not debate this with a now Deceased Marine. He was in his seventies and still had the look.
This day is for the ones that did not come back as you say in my opinion.
