A couple of different folks sent me this one in email…

I really don’t even know what to say on this one…  Just not a clue…

Milwaukee gun range voluntarily reporting customers to the local police

Story by Daivd LaPell.

Recently it came to my attention that there is a gun shop and gun range that has been reporting its users to the local police. These are not criminals, but law-abiding citizens. At first I could not imagine why someone would do this, but after doing some digging it became a little clearer.

First let’s get a little background on the gun range itself, Brew City Shooters Supply, which was previously known as Badger Guns and before that Badger Outdoors. Last year, these guys were considered top sellers of guns used in crimes by the West Milwaukee Police according to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The original owner of the store, Adam Allan had his FFL revoked by the BATFE and the store closed on Dec. 31, 2011.

Since 2009 under the last owner there have been roughly 25,000 names submitted to the West Milwaukee Police Department from Brew City Shooters Supply and previously Badger Guns. These names were submitted voluntarily by Brew City and as far as I can tell, without the knowledge of the users of the range. This year alone more than 8,000 names have been run and 47 of those have been flagged as requiring further investigation according to West Milwaukee Police Chief Dennis Nasci.

You can read the whole article HERE.

Would you ever darken their doorstep again???  I know I sure as hell wouldn’t…

Your thoughts?

  1. It clears thing up a bit to note that even though it closed last year, it re-opened under the previous owners brother.
Thar would explain the continuation of policy.
47 out of 8000 names have been “flagged”. That’s 6 out of a thousand (let’s see… carry the one..) less than one percent (.006).
And what were the grounds for flagging?
    Is there an on-going investigation?
Can the PD be sued for fishing? Prob not.

  2. Ed- Thanks for doing the math, it’s too early for me to try that! And it DOES make one wonder, doesn’t it??? The cops, I’m sure, would state it was ‘all’ voluntary!

  3. There is that hint of the Gestapo in some of these tactics, and it’s very disconcerting. Small numbers of flagging notwithstanding, nobody wants to go in the “list”. It’s not unlike the Obama move early in his administration to have people report those who are ‘fishy’ directly to the White House.

(I immediately denounced myself to Obama because I was a retired veteran with a lot of combat experience and therefore belonged on both his and Janet Napolitano’s “bad list” and asked for the reward for pointing out that I’m fishy – the White House didn’t send me either a check or cash)

  4. I immediately decided on very little information that the original owner was a criminal under influence of police powers to provide testimony in major trials of gun running king pins. He got busted to the public, lost his papers. His brother decided as a public duty he should take over and continue cooperation with the police efforts to criminalize us all. They work indirectly for the Mayor of New York. Having said all that, and knowing they all aren’t that smart, but could be fooling themselves and I better than we will ever know.

I wouldn’t shoot there, if I knew. But that is just to help paperwork reduction, I sign lists ever time I go to the range, never thinking I am adding to the government’s burden. Those LEO remind me much of most serving military – weeks to years of nothing then it is panic city and they are very needed. They don’t need to create enemies just be aware.

  5. I hope he goes broke due to lack of customers, and I hope what the PD gained from this was worth the damage to its reputation.

Of course, it’s only those lowly patrolmen who will pay the price for that damage.

  6. LL- Concur, and I’m there with ya…

    WSF- True 🙂

    Earl- Excellent points!

    Suz- Agree!

    Mikey- Yeah… sigh
