Happy Birthday…

Happy Birthday to the Marines! One more year added to the tradition, and hoping like hell we get a lot more… But depending on how bad sequestration gets, the Marines ‘may’ go the way of the dodo… At what point do we say enough??? Enough to the lack of equipment, enough to the lack of support from higher, and OPTEMPO/PERSTEMPO that violates all common sense??? Thankfully the Marines continue to get good folks who are willing to do the hard job, and take pride in their work!

Hand Salute!

Ready Two… Carry on Marines!

  1. At least the Marines, alone amongst the Armed Forces, have a statutorily mandated minimum force level.

  2. I don’t think the Marines will go away. Aren’t they the only Branch of the Military that the President can order into Combat w/o Congressional Approval?

And since they are needed to guard the White House….

  3. Seriously, I would not be surprised, since we are being reduced to a third world country,to see a military coup. The downsizing and depletion has to stop. If not, we can be taken over by a boyscout troop.

  4. I pray that as a nation we continue to deserve the selfless sacrifice Marines have made on behalf of our nation. There are days I wonder . . . .

    Happy Birthday Marines!!

  5. eiaftinfo, the Marines sacrifice for the people and they will always deserve it because ‘the people’ means not just those in our country, but those to come in the future especially.

  6. I’m always amazed that the Progressives are so ignorant of the purpose for our military, and always slashing their budgets.

A military coup isn’t completely out of the question, IMHO. You can only push those guys so far, opines this veteran. YMMV.

  7. Tango- You’re welcome!

    Geod- Yeah, but… sigh

    Les- good point

    CP- maybe, hopefully not…

    eia/Tango- Concur!!!

    Rev- Good point!

  8. OOORAH!! And thanks, squid…er, thanks shipmate.

And just a minor clarification. The POTUS can order Marines into ( potential) combat without any authorization from the Congress. However, he must notify them officially as soon as possible, and they must vote to continue operations past 90 days.
