More on Sequestration…

BLUF, or Bottom Line Up Front as they say…

If Congress (NOT the administration) doesn’t do something, DOD and DOD contractors are screwed come January…

And I’d almost bet that the Senate WILL force this on the American military and the country…

Folks that I’ve talked to indicate the Navy will NOT be able to meet commitments world-wide, nor meet OPTEMPO/PERSTEMPO statutory requirements…

In what was likely their last joint press briefing before the Nov. 6 elections, Panetta and Dempsey presented a wish list of what they want from the upcoming lame duck session of Congress after the election, with the main focus on avoiding sequestration that would devastate defense budgets and planning.

“When Congress returns to town after the election, there’s a great deal of critical work that needs to be done,” Panetta said.

Number one on the agenda is avoiding the mandatory cuts on Jan. 2 under  sequestration that could add another $500 billion in defense cuts – $55 billion next year alone – over the next 10 years on top of $487 billion in cuts already underway, Panetta said.

Pulling back from the “fiscal cliff” will “require Democrats and Republicans to work together,” Panetta said.

“I don’t know what I’m gonna’ get for 2013, much less 2014,” Panetta said, leaving him at a loss for planning the department’s future. “For me to put a strategy in place, I have to have some kind of stability,” Panetta said.

Panetta said he also requested the lame duck session pass a defense authorization bill and legislation to strengthen cyber security defenses.

He also called on the Senate to approve the nominations of Marine Gen. John Allen as the new head NATO commander, and Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford as the commander of international forces in Afghanistan.

  1. Sadly, I see no chance of this happening. If he wins, Obama will drive this baby into the ground just to push the Republicans into “taxing the rich”.

If he looses, it will be the final gift to Romney from Obama and Reid.

He has no love of country, no understanding of what he’s about to do to it but he does understand Chicago politics. It’s going to be painful . . . . .

  2. MSgt- Yep… At least THEY know what Forward REALLY means…

eia- I think you’re right on all counts…

  3. Well, for Panetta, I would like to suggest what he will get in 2013-2014.

With any luck and the good Lord willing, he will get a pink-slip and, a bold new challenging career.

From my lips (or fingers), to God’s ears hopefully

  4. I am shell shocked that our DOD has been put in this peril. Since last summer’s debt ceiling crisis, President Obama has been out on the stump nearly 100% of the time, as if he is willing to sacrifice our national security for continued power. Now, our only hope is a lame duck session – and I agree with eiafltnfo that there is a good chance it will be a loss either way.

  5. NFO, politicos I’ve talked to firmly believe that the lame duck Congressional session will put a stop to this regardless of the election outcome. That’s a hope anyway.

  6. Broken Andy, I’m thinking in the event of an Obama loss, Reid will swell up like a poisoned pup and simply run out the clock. One last basket of rattlesnakes for Romney.
I don’t want to think what that asshole would do in the case of an Obama win.

  7. You can use the Lenmar battery with or without your internal laptop battery but there are some cautions if you use your laptop with only the external battery and not the internal one connected. This technology is no longer state-of-the-art, so the cost of replacement batteries can be high. Again the duracell outlasted the competition, but this time the results were a lot closer.
