WTF is going on in NY/NJ???

Just heard that Alabama power line crews were turned away from multiple locations in NY/NJ because they were NOT UNION crews…

People are out of food, water, gas, it’s getting cold and help is being REFUSED, because the help is NON UNION???

And in other news, there is looting, dumpster diving for food, fights,  and whining about how ‘slowly’ help is coming because it’s NEW YAWK, that ‘can’t’ be happening there, they are better than everybody else!!!

And where’s FEMA???

Oh, and  one more question…

People need power to survive, and yet Bloomie has two LARGE generators running a TENT in Central Park for the NY Marathon, because THAT is more important???

Can’t Blame Bush for this one…

  1. Bloomberg having that marathon in spite of all the suffering going on in NY reminds me of Obama worrying about his election while good men were being ass-raped and killed in Libya.

  2. If anyone wonders how the typical progressive politician, and administrators, actually feel about those that pay their salaries, there should now be no doubt. The entire process of assistance disappears when government is involved.

They should have sent in the National Guard, with tons of MRE’s and portable shelters. No, it’s not home, but the food is hot and you have a warm place to rest.

  3. Let’s see, how long was it before the media was finger pointing at Bush after Katrina? Howls about Obama’s failure in this in 3…2…1…oh, wait, never mind. Forgot who owned the media.

  4. Its actually going to get worse as power comes back.
My son (the reformed Marine) is a volunteer fireman in Red Bank NJ. He is constantly out on fire calls as power is restored. Salt water and electrical equipment don’t work well together. Also problems with below code construction, particularly around fireplaces. Folks are using their fireplaces for heat & they are causing fires in the adjacent walls due to poor installation. Broken gas lines are common with the fires that follow. He’s a busy boy up there.

  5. And people wanting water had better not try to get it in a 46oz cup. Christ, what do you expect for Liberal Democrats. Self-reliance? pffftttt. I in NY even the Unions have Unions. Again…Democrats!

  6. Generators are not Bloomies, they are rentals by the event organizers.

But Bloomie is taking police, fire and streets people off the recovery and having them watch folks run around the city.

    A waste of resources.

  7. Priorities.

Christie needs to be called out on this. I know what his answer will be (union contracts or some such) but he needs to explain it.

  8. +1 for Six’s comment. Since there’s no pay involved, nor any contract, it’s hard to see how any union is threatened by volunteer help.

  9. Hey, don’t worry! Obama is right on top of things! In fact, the Recovery Effort is going so smoothly that Saturday, he’s coming to Lakeland Community College in Lake County, Ohio for a Campaign Rally!

Which, BTW, is about 8-10 miles from either Breda’s or my place (depending how the Crow Flies) on the East Side of Greater CLEVELAND, OHIO.

Which, as we all know, is right where Ground Zero of Sandy happened, correct?

So, of course Obama “..feels the Pain and Suffering of those Devastated by Sandy, and he is INSURING that everything is being done to help those who need it.”

Just like Obama INSURED us that EVERYTHING that could have been done to help those people at the Libyan Consulate WAS done.

Excuse me, I think the Secret Service is knocking at my door. So if you don’t hear from me….

  10. FEMA is right where it’s supposed to be – waiting to start writing checks to cover expenses beyond what the State’s can handle.

but wait… the state’s have been completely ignoring their own responsibilities to fund preparedness programs because they know that they can scream bloody murder and the Washington Politicians will just throw money their way. Why invest in response infrastructure when they can get the Feds to provide it for free…. and then get even more ‘free’ money for recovery…

  11. Oh, and add to the mix that Bloomberg is refusing to let the National Guard come help. Says he doesn’t want anybody with guns other than police on the streets.

When does he come up for re-election?

  12. Robert- Concur!

    Anon- Good point!

    Jess- Good point there too!

    PH- You’re LEARNING… sigh

Roger- I can imagine. Tell him to be careful!

WSF- Actually I was, I ‘thought’ safety would come first!

    CP- Good point!

Gerry- Yeah, but you KNOW he could get them if he wanted…

    Six/Rev- Concur!

    Les- Heard that…

MDC- So why is the media not all over them like Katrina???

    PH- THAT I hadn’t heard…

  13. So the question is would you be happy if the Mayor seized private property “for the common good”?

I say if it was my generator, some folks would end up shot, probably including yours truly.

I can’t believe the oranizers don’t have the sense God gave slugs and just called the whole thing off.

    Gerry

  14. Can’t blame Bush for this one? Just watch them!

Yeah, its disgusting what is going on. I’m off-continent right now and the foreign reporting of the NY/NJ makes the US look like idiots.

  15. My brother is utility-employed (gas side but winds up doing navigation for the out of towner crews)and normally hears everything about what is going on with them. I’ll let you know what I hear.

Most utility companies are private not municipal so Christie may have no power over who they let work.

I AM surprised that NG hasn’t been called out though…..how much bigger a national disaster would we need? And the shelter and MREs would be better than hungry and on the street — just sayin’

  16. Gerry- I blame the organizers ICW the mayor… Readily available generators could be used a LOT better than lighting tents nobody is using…

    Rick- Point!

    Agirl- No idea.

    Andy- I can imagine

Joey- Please throw up a post when you find out!

  17. I still don’t have power at home. I’m staying at a friend’s house right now that is 5 minutes from my school, so I’m saving gas, too.
