One ND away???

At lunch yesterday I was chatting with a Sheriff’s Deputy (and former Marine 2 tours in the sandbox) that I know, we got on the subject of the possible gun bans and all the associated folderol…

He said it could be very interesting, especially since most of those guys/girls ALSO have AR platform and other types of rifles.  He said he doesn’t believe it will ever get to confiscation, but if it did, his personal opinion was that we were one negligent discharge away from open revolt.

When I looked at him, he said there are ‘plenty’ of NDs among LEOs either through complacency, or nerves, or improper clearing procedures…

All it would take would be on person trying to unload ONE gun in a confiscation and have it go off, and the shooting would start (like the Marine killed in Ariz (I think) without ever firing a shot).  And if it did, there would be innocent folks dead; which would then get out to the public.

What would follow? It could literally be the one ‘spark’ needed to set off a conflagration that would make Lexington/Concord look like child’s play. His opinion, it would be open season on LEOs and others because then everybody would think it was done on purpose.  Nationwide,  SWAT teams would be trying to take down houses, anybody answering the door with a weapon in hand would be either pepper sprayed, Tasered, or summarily be shot; then it would be ‘combat’ house clearing from that point on…

And he didn’t even want to contemplate being on the receiving end or having to try to take guns away from friends/family.  He basically admitted he’d be out of law enforcement if confiscation came to pass.

The ‘money’ quote- “I’ve been shot at enough DEFENDING this country, I’m not about to get shot at for something as stupid as gun control. It’s not about the 2nd Amendment, it’s about control.”

Pretty much have to agree with him on this, and I hadn’t even ‘thought’ about that problem…

One ND away??? — 20 Comments

  1. Let’s see: law enforcement officers won’t confiscate guns; the military won’t confiscate guns; and the politicians definitely won’t leave their desk, unless there’s a camera and and audience. This only leaves foreign troops, that will find a population of determined citizens willing to fight off invaders.

I’d say the war is already won. It started with the battle of ideas, that was lost by the gun control advocates about two months ago.

This is a nice distraction by those that refuse to address the problem of a broke country, with too much debt and a furious populace that has reached the point of rebellion.

Somebody needs to open some windows in Washington D.C. and give the politicians some air. They’ve spent way too much time indoors, out of touch and don’t realize they’ve reached the point they’re only months away from mobs with pitch forks and clubs.

  2. Heres what your SD buddie and DC have both missed. IF DC acts to take the guns/ammo/mags, a huge number of people will line the roads and shoot ANYONE in a goverment uniform. The people who will resist ARE NOT gonna sit in there homes and wait for SWAT. SWAT and the FLEAs won’t get the CHANCE to “f” up. This is exactly what obama wants; a civil war that allows him cover to invoke the patriot act, bring in the UN, make himself “president for life” and deal with the “gun nuts” and “bible thumpers” that he and the left hate with all there hearts. Sir I belive this is about to become a gigantic poode screw, and short of purgeing the left from governmet, there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

  3. Your choice, every time you meet those working for government and in the wrong to tell them so, not enough of us speak up, and the media seems to have the pulpit. Iceland, should be a model of the future destruction of Washington, DC. In the future Federal government (somewhere in Kansas) there will be a ban on media, lawyers and more than one aide per elected officials – meet twice a year and live in home district and meet in the cloud otherwise.

  4. I know feelings and tempers are set on high, but I originally foo foo’ed the thought of gun control and confiscation. But then Obama put Biden (the fool) in charge of an investigating the gun issue and I am now scared. I believe Obama has told him (somebody has to because he can’t think for himself)what he wants the outcome to be and it’s up to Joe to make it fit. We really could be in trouble.

  5. Anon- Good point…

    Anon 2- Can’t discount that either…

Earl- I hope you’re right, citizen politicians would be a MUCH better way to go!

    CP- Possibly…

ADM- I hope not, but I’m beginning to wonder…

  6. Yep, the day confiscation begins – things will slide off the rails pretty darn quick. I agree with your poster that that is the desired outcome . . . . time will tell.

  7. A coworker and I were discussing this yesterday – the other issue that will start things off is, if a ban/confiscation is ordered, and then I’m rolling up to some house looking to see if they’ve seen little Timmy who’s lost from down the street & the resident thinks “They’re here for my guns, it’s on…” — Not a good thought.

  8. Having seen some cops handling guns on shows like “Cops” I’m not surprised they have negligent discharges. Seems like most times a copy handled a semi auto handgun he/she would take and pinch the grips with thumb and forefinger of one hand and the pinch the slide with the other thumb and forefinger of the other hand to work the slide to clear the chamber. Good way to have an ND but it sure makes good TV to show how dangerous the gun is by how gingerly you have to hold it as if it was a poisonous snake.

  9. What everyone said.
We must be vigilant not only in watching the ‘legislators’ and ‘constabulary’ but in our own actions.

PS – Yes the Marine in Tucson was being raided on trumped-up/mistaken drug charges (I believe) and overwhelmed by force.

  10. I was hoping saner heads would prevail, but then Biden got put in charge.

If obama does issue some sort of Executive Order let’s hope for an immediate legal challenge and a stay while it works its way through the appeals process. I’m sure the ‘wise latina’ and her SCOTUS cronies will support the Constitution, just like they did on obamacare.

    Oh, wait…

  11. Good post, exactly the points I was trying to get across in by blog in regard to LEO’s enforcing gun laws.

  12. Well, I’ve been to talking to my LEO buddies up here. They tell me that at least half of the local Cops won’t “Play” unless they get some Military Units with ARMOR to back them up.

And if it gets THAT BAD, how many Troops are going to listen to some Fed Commissar Order them to shoot on their Neighbors?

I can see some Local VolksRepubliks try something like that, but once they get past NYC, the Word will be out, and THEY’LL get their Wake-up Call.

  13. Stephen/eia- Agreed.

PH- Hadn’t thought of that, but good point!

    CT- Ouch, yeah unintended consequence…

    Anon- Excellent point!

    gfa- Thanks

    WSF- yep

    Tim- I know…

    Duke- Thanks!

Rev- I just wonder “HOW ugly” they are willing to go…

Les- Hope not, but can’t disagree!
