WTF Social Engineering…

The new “Distinguished Warfare Medal” is now official…

Panetta strikes again with the social engineering and downplaying the actual warfighters in favor of those who go to war with a joystick from 8000 miles away…

In one of his last official acts, outgoing Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Wednesday announced the creation of the Distinguished Warfare Medal, to recognize “extraordinary achievements that directly impact on combat operations, but do not involve acts of valor or physical risks that combat entails.”
The medal will rank immediately below the Distinguished Flying Cross — and higher than the Bronze Star — in order of precedence, according to a Defense Department chart. It can be awarded for any actions after Sept. 11, 2001.

Basically this is a REMF medal that will actually outrank combat medals!!!

And since rumors of this surfaced last year, the ‘Chair’ Force has been pushing for it, saying that since they suffer PTSD because of the ‘disassociation’ they suffer for fighting the ‘war’ during the day with their drones and then going home to the family they deserved a combat medal too.

Needless to say, the Army, Navy and Marines who are actually in the air/on the ground in the area are NOT in favor, nor are any veteran’s organizations (or at least none that “I” know of)…

Especially since they’ve now cut combat pay even in theater unless you’re actually taking fire…

Interestingly, the Air Force has NOT allowed any PAO comments from any of their folks who are actually in theater…

I’m sorry, but this is just one more attempt to minimize the folks that actually get into the fight and do the dirty jobs on the ground.  Personally, “I” would be embarrassed to wear something like that medal…

  1. Makes me want to vomit!!! Would have thought we learned our lessons in the 70s and 80s. Obviously not. Dumbasses!!!!!

  2. The POG’s have always wanted a “valor medal” that didn’t involve going near a shot fired in anger. Now they have one.

  3. Suz- I think even THEY would be embarrassed to wear one…

eia- You’re NOT the only one, trust me…

    LL- Yep…

  4. Where’s my medal for going to work and paying my taxes, then? A buncha high school kids would do the drone jockey job for free.

  5. I’ve never served a day of my life, so I know I have no say in this matter, but still it’s shameful. Metals are bestowed for putting your life on the line and risking yourself to defend and save those at home. Not playing a video game. If you want a metal that bad, go to the field and pick up a rifle. I’m sure there are people in the front line who would gladly trade.

  6. I have three medals awarded me in my service record. I got in a bit of trouble for not wearing all three, because I only earned one. The other two I didn’t do crap to deserve. That’s why medals mean nothing to me. Just another symptom of pussifying the Military.

  7. Robert- Yep… sigh

    Mudbug- EXCELLENT point!

    WSF- As always… sigh

    zdog- Probably not…

    Rick- That it is!

TerriLynn- Thanks for your service, and understood…

    RM- Concur!
