And the hits keep coming…

This one is ‘really’ not a surprise, but it still sucks for the Navy…

From the UT San Diego-

The California Coastal Commission has roundly rejected the U.S. Navy’s sonar program, saying that what the Navy sees as its “theater” — in other words, the ocean – has some seats reserved for whales and dolphins.

The unanimous vote, taken at a commission meeting Friday morning in San Diego, sets up a possible repeat of a federal lawsuit that ultimately involved the White House and the Supreme Court in 2008.

The Navy is applying for a five-year renewal of its federal marine permit to conduct training over a huge swath of ocean between Hawaii and Southern California. For the California piece, it is required to run the plan past the Coastal Commission.

The commission didn’t like what it saw. Commissioners said the Navy didn’t supply enough information to support its conclusions that the overall marine mammal count isn’t affected by sonar technology used by the Navy to locate ships or by detonations at sea.

I see, in addition to the usual dem suspects, the NRDC and China’s hands all over this…

Now is their chance to truly hose the Navy over on allowed training…

I swear if I was in charge, I’d pull every damn ship, airplane, Army, Air Force and Marine unit out of California and move them North and West.  They ‘love’ the military money, but ‘hate’ the military and do every thing they can out there to thwart realistic (or for that matter ANY) training.

  1. Heck, I’d bring along the truck and move some stuff to help out. The more we take out of California, the better off we’ll all be.

  2. DB- This is just F’ing ridiculous… They’d happily kill a ship full of sailors to save ONE whale…

  3. Being firmly attached to an anchor 1,200 miles inland, not really qualified to comment on naval manners. Still, even casual research shows the biggest bang for the buck in naval weapons, going back to WWI, is the submarine. Even the North Koreans can afford them.

Seems being able to defend against submarines should be top priority.

  4. Wing- They don’t give a shit about ANYTHING but themselves…

    WSF- You would think…

Ed- And don’t forget the flakes…

  5. I guess is because I’m just a civilian but it boggles the mind that the Navy has to ask permission rather than just saying, “Here’s our schedule, stay out of the way.”

  6. Can’t you move south into international waters between Central America and Hawaii?

California is the darling of the progressive agenda. They will keep the bases and the money that they bring in despite their disdain for the US Navy.

  7. I’ve always treated the Dept. of State as a hostile third world power.
We should treat Kali the same way.
NO! Forget that. They’d want foreign aide when they finally declare bankruptcy.
Next time a ‘quake hits Kali all military aide should be withheld.
And when they DO go bankrupt NO federal funds unless they surrender statehood and accept a Territorial Governor.

  8. California is the darling of the progressive movement. I was reading that there is a feudal system going on in California..a ruling group, small middle class and a crap-load of poor people that depend on the ruling class for subsistence. The bad thing is that people are bailing out of California, but bringing their progressive ideas to other states because that is all they know.

  9. Robert- It’s an ‘attempt’ to play nice…

    LL- That is an option

    Stretch- Good point!

    MSgt- Not me!!!

MrG- You are correct, witness OR, WA and CO…

  10. Better yet, to prove the point against the Coastal Commission (and Cali in general):
Don’t just pull the Navy bases, but USAF, USMC, and USA. There’s some big $$$ in those facilities. Ft. Erwin, Twentynine Palms, Edwards AFB, Travis AFB, Chine Lake, etc. Just look what happened to the Blue Angels, having to move from Sandy Eggo to Fallon.
And don’t stop there, encourage the DoD contractors to pull up stakes as well. Lockheed Martin, Northrop-Grumman, Boeing, Raytheon, BAE, etc.
Cut off the DoD money to the universities, too.
Think of the losses of payroll and taxes.
    Actions have consequences.

  11. Maybe I am missing something here, but once you get beyond the three mile limit or certainly beyond the 12 mile limit aren’t you in International waters? What the heck does California’s permission have to do with anything in International waters? If a Chinese or Russian sub were 15 miles from our coast doing active sonar ops, do you think they would stop if some yahoo in California said so?
