More impacts to the Military…

The hits just keep coming, this time it’s getting both active duty AND homeless Veterans.

Via Fox News…

The $85 billion in cuts that went into effect at the beginning of the month will not spare soldiers and veterans, with a wave of cuts being announced for tuition assistance and a program that helps homeless veterans get back on their feet.

The Pentagon for months warned that the sequester cuts would be catastrophic. But the Defense Department is not the only federal agency with programs for servicemen and women that are vulnerable.

Under a federal housing program that helps roughly 100,000 Americans, homeless and formerly homeless veterans will lose assistance due to the sequester. The program is run by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and provides state grants to help veterans get housing.

The Army announced Friday that it will no longer accept applications for its Tuition Assistance program, which gives soldiers as much as $4,500 annually to take courses, at accredited schools, toward high school and college diplomas. Army officials could not give a specific amount on how much the cuts would save but said 201,000 soldiers used the program in fiscal 2012 at the cost of $373 million.

In addition, the Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard announced this week that their programs also have been suspended.

Read the whole thing HERE.  The Navy (at least so far) as managed to continue it’s TA program since many sailors are ship based and instructors actually ride the ships.

Matter of fact, TA is how I got my degree on active duty!  And I’m hearing that the Navy is still trying to find out how bad the cuts really are going to be.  Waiting on SECDEF for determinations…

JUST what we need as PRNK is about to blow up…

  1. I suspect Obama will be thrilled to no-show at any Korean conflict “due to the sequester”.

  2. All of the President’s pet programs remain intact despite the sequester. You haven’t heard of any damage to the ObamaCare boondoggle.

The military has always been on the chopping block because the liberals want it pared back to the levels of Sweden or Spain…until there’s a problem.

  3. All is proceeding according to plan of our Dear Leader . . . . and gutting the military has been at the top of the list for a long time for all libs.

PRNK is just kind of facinating. I’d like to think the new kid in charge is just chest thumping – but when your dad was nuts, the generals around you are nuts and you’re feeling like you need to make your own street cred . . . . scares the shit outta me.

  4. What they said. I strongly suspect that this administration will come up with several reasons for failing to respond to an actual NK attack on US territory. What remains to be seen is whether the military would then eject them all forcibly from the halls of power.

  5. I think PRNK should be blown up IRL. And I agree that the Libs are licking their lips over the military cuts. Also, by law, the active dudes cannot have their pay cut, but the benefits, which is significant to mil families, can be, and that is a disgrace. But lets give more to the Muslim Brotherhood. Send more arms, planes, tanks and stuff to those who will be using them against us one day. Who cares about American anyway?

  6. According to the Modern DemaCommie Philosophy, ALL the Troubles in the World are caused by the United States. If they can gut the Military, this will show the World that the United States is really, Really REALLY just a Big Softie, and this will keep other Countries at Bay. After all, they only need enough Military People to handle Disaster Relief, Protection of the Political elite against the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, and to “Ensure Domestic Tranquility,”…on THEIR Terms.

  7. Got my degree the same way — took 7 years and a lot of TA. With all the bowing, apologizing, and scraping Obama has done, he must be too low on energy to at least acknowledge what he’s doing to the military not only in force projection terms, but also in very personal terms.

  8. Damn.

Like LL said…we should cut the other so-called social welfare programs first. SM tuition assistance, of all things, should be pretty damn near the last thing cut.

  9. Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words
in your post seem to be running off the screen in Firefox.
I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought I’d post
to let you know. The style and design look great though!
Hope you get the problem resolved soon. Thanks

  10. I was just informed that USAF tuition assistance has been turned off. I used it, a lot. Great retention tool, and now it’s gone for however long.

  11. +1 more college degree earned while on active duty.

And as typical, the Dems want to cut the military back to pay for their social welfare programs. All is good until the SHTF and we have to buy time with blood to get the military back up to
Ass-Kicking Speed again. This time around, I suggest anyone with an EBT card be thrown in to fill the gap.

  12. But still, it is SO frigging IMPORTANT that a federal study be conducted and funded as to why lesbians are so fat.

    Who fuc*ing cares?

Yet, we’re going to treat our military in THIS fashion?

Frankly, these things and other trends considered, I recommended that my nieces and nephew NOT consider the military unless they wished to wished to lay down their lives for a temporary viewpoint to be changed when the prevailing Political Prairie Winds change under Mr Obaka.
