Random things…

So I was working on my To Do list today…

I dropped by my favorite gun store today to buy ammo, and we got to discussing ‘pocket carry’, and I think 3/4 of the customers were carrying snubbies…

And there were THREE of us carrying old Colts πŸ™‚ Β The rest, I think all but one were carrying S&W and one lady had a Taurus in her purse. The rest varied from LCR to P-3AT to one older gent with a Browning 1910!!!

So what is YOUR favorite pocket carry or carries as the case may be?

And leaving the gun store I saw a truck with the license plate RED N3K πŸ™‚ And he had a bumper sticker on the back that said-

Paddle faster I hear BANJOS!!! Β πŸ™‚

And on a more serious note, Ambulance Driver is posting a blog challenge for all of us to support Prostate Cancer and Testicular Cancer awareness in September. Β There will be significant prizes for the winner (trust me on this). You can check out his lead up post HERE. Β While “I” will not be wearing a kilt, I will be supporting the effort, and ask all of you to do the same when AD gets the details up. Β

For those who don’t read AD, he’s a good ol’ boy from Louisiana, career Paramedic, damn sarcastic, pretty decent shot, and one of the few I call a true friend (in other words, I WOULD put up bail $$)…

I hope each and everyone can take a break from the current insanity at least for a while, and enjoy time with family, at the range, flying, or what ever your ‘passion’ is… We ALL need a bit of downtime. Β

  1. I don’t pocket carry because I don’t have a gun that is appropriate it for it.

Which is your favorite gun store, if you don’t mind me asking?

  2. And out here in The People’s Republik of Kaliforniastan, we can’t carry at all.

I’m headed to the range tomorrow with my son. I paid for his first training course, and it’ll be a refresher for me, too!

  3. Liked the T. Shirt. Sounds like my list of things to do.

I will check out AD’s blog.

@drjim, Tell your son good luck, I bet he’s excited. My son wants to start taking lessons too.

  4. Thanks!
We’ve been to the range a bunch of times, and I’ve tried to teach him the things I know, but having a different instructor gives you a broader viewpoint!
Plus, he’s an EMT, so if anything happens, I feel safe!

  5. I have a CZ-50 .32 It is easily concealable and there are better guns out there but that is what I have. it is totally dependable, fires both in single action and double action, will ingest all kinds of ammo without a hiccup and I can carry it loaded with one in the pipe and the safety on.

  6. AD is good people!
Being in AZ., 103 today, I don’t carry the 1911 as much as I should.
But, I do have an electroless nickel 442 and a speed strip! And a Ken Onion ‘assisted-open’ knife.

  7. When I get my CC permit it will be the little S&W AirLite .38 Special.

We have open carry in WV, and I had to laugh at the sheriff’s website comment about having a loaded pistol laying in sight in a vehicle that is stopped. It WILL attract attention of the officer and the paragraph ends with “(In other words you will be hassled and it is probably not worth it.)”

  8. Well, I didn’t vote. But now I do have a dozen stripper clips loaded up for tomorrow.

I carry a short 1911, from Citadel. The policeman doing security at the gun show made me take the magazine back to the car. Kind of felt like Massachusetts, actually, except for the 104 degree Texas heat …

  9. When I’m working, an aerosol can of wasp killer (employer – no weapons). Rides in a small bag along with water bottle, sunglasses, spare glasses, band aids, LED flashlight, etc. Doesn’t raise an eyebrow.

    Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special.

Decompressed by helping a friend with a minor home improvement project.

  10. Andy- Virginia Arms, they’ve always treated me right, and as they have grown I’m STILL treated right.

Rev- There were a couple of folks with them today.

drjim- That SUCKS… I’m not going to say what I did when I was there… πŸ™‚

    SS- Thanks!

drjim- LOL, that is called belt AND suspenders… πŸ™‚

MrG- I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen one. Guess I better go do some research.

Guffaw- It was about half and half on speed loaders and speed strips. I have both.

PH- Make sure you get range time with that one… The airweight takes some time to be comfortable with.

BP- Two out of three ain’t bad… I’m surprised about the mag thing.

WSF- Thanks for the reminder, I need to get a can of that. You’re a better man than I; I can’t get back on target fast enough with the .44

  11. The only Big Bore pistol I fire regularly is the S&W TRR8 in 357 that I bought for my wife to use.
Even though it’s an alloy frame, it’s balanced so well that I can get back on-target with full power 357 loads very quickly.
She fires it single-action, so I’ve instilled in her to make that first shot *really* count!

  12. I carry an older Taurus Model 85 in .38.

AD has some of the funniest and most poignant posts I’ve ever read. I must meet him someday.

  13. Sig SAS

Or for lighter pocket work, the High Standard .22 Magnum derringer.

Speed is fine, accuracy is final.

  14. I carry a 5″ Kimber in a Fugly [Dragon Leatherworks] under Hawaiian shirts in the good weather and in a shoulder rig in winter.
    In Kalifornia.
The CCW is bitch to get, but doable.
Also licensed in AZ and Utah which covers most other states.

  15. I carry my trusty Walther PPK. I was a huge James Bond fan. I don’t change weapons much for CC. I carry it because it has been the one I trained with the most.(30 years now) I went into the city of Philly last week, and did switch to 9mm, loaded to 20, with 2 additional magazines of 19. (Flash Mob? What Flash mob?)

When I hear banjo music I start to think about pigs squealing, so paddling faster is a good thing!!(Funny how one movie can have that impact)

  16. WSF- LOL, hopefully it’s not THAT bad πŸ™‚

drjim- That is a nice one!

DB- There was one of those in a pocket too πŸ™‚ Yeah, AD is something else!

LL- Is that the 239? You are right, accuracy is what it is ALL about!

Skip- Dennis does good work, and you are one of the few I’ve see/heard that actually HAS a CA CCW… Good on ya!

Danny- The PPK seems to be a favorite of the ‘older folks’ (no dis here), the younger tend to LCR or P3AT. I’d have been carrying heavy in Philly too, especially if after dark. And rgr the comment on Deliverance πŸ™‚

  17. For pocket carry I go with either the LCR or LC9 depending on how I’m feeling. To round out the Ruger trifecta I’ve got my order in for a KSR1911 that should be coming in sometime in the next few weeks.

  18. PE- Those work πŸ™‚

Poppa- Those are ‘interesting’ guns… Haven’t had a chance to shoot the new Ruger 1911, but looking forward to it.

  19. Pocket Kahr CW9.
Wife’s purse Ruger 101 in .357 (with exposed hammer).
Keep thinking of something smaller and lighter in pocket, but then again not.
Dinner with friends today, my birthday, their treat.

  20. Old NFO-

I think you mean “Prostate” cancer regarding why AD is in a Kilt… “ProSTRATE” is where dudes wind up with if we dont find a cure for prostate cancer…

    ~Smartass HM1(FMF)…

  21. Ed- Both of those work. Hope the dinner was good, and Happy Whatevereth Birthday πŸ™‚

HM1- Thanks! May not be able to spell it, but I damn sure know I want to help CURE it… Stay safe Sir!

  22. I have a S&W M38 in my pocket as I write. Holster is an Uncle Mike’s pocket holster. Tried some other holsters but have always come back to the Uncle Mike’s.

If I am not carrying the M38 I am, most likely, carrying one of my S&W M649s. All of the guns are in .38 Special and pre-lock.

Have sometimes carried a Beretta 21A, but not recently.

  23. Right now 9MM Makarov. Small, sturdy and reliable.

Shooters in Jacksonville is my favorite gun shop.

    Right beside the Sonny’s!

  24. Well Seasoned Fool – I like the wasp spray idea. I work at a state university, so my right to carry is restricted not only by employer policy, but by state law as well. But they haven’t outlawed insecticides – yet.

When I can legally carry, it’s either a Springfield XD .45 (with high capacity mags – I live in TX, thank God, not CA) or a Taurus 111 in 9mm, depending on what I’m wearing and where I’m going.

  25. My Kel-Tec P3AT stays at a comfortable 98.6 degrees year round, and is not known to go below that temperature, ever.

You really can’t go wrong though with a pocket snubby. I’m just too cheap at the moment to buy a nice one.

  26. On the rare occaision for pocket carry, Ruger LCR and a spare speedloader. Barely shows a bulge. Toss up between Greentop and DeGoff’s on the gunshop.

  27. USA Admiral: “Right beside the Sonny’s!”
mmmm. I like me some Sonny’s.
Going down to Jax in Sept for mt niece’s wedding.
    Sonny’s…

  28. Anon- Have you tried the Nemesis holster? I like it better than the UM.

ADM- That works! Shooters and Sonny’s- I’ve done that MANY times!!!

Tim- That is hosed… and the spray IS a good idea!

CTone- Yep, but at least you ARE carrying!!!

45- Have you had any problems with the LCR?

Ed- That’ll work πŸ™‚ Brisket plate and fries… YUM!

  29. Excellent blog here! Also your web site loads up very fast!
