My last experience with Denny’s (many years ago), was coming off watch, in uniform sitting at the counter in San Diego. I NEVER got served… Never went back either…
Hmm….. a 24 hour restaurant dealing mostly in cash, where one can be 100% certain there are no police officers, and almost certain no armed patrons.
Not only that, but I suspect police response time to any incidents will certainly not be quicker than the national average, at best.
What could possibly go wrong?
I’m not a big Denny’s fan but this sort of thing is bad for a place that’s known to serve “choke and puke” food.
However, I’m sure that this policy is one of those local things and not a national direction that Denny’s has taken. I would personally suspect that the VERY LAST thing that Denny’s would want to do is to tick of law enforcement nationwide.
But I may be wrong?
Just the fact that it’s in Illinois makes it suspicious. That is the state that wants to disarm off-duty police officers isn’t it?
Well, if you’re going to have a’no guns’ policy it should apply to everyone.

I always smile to myself when I walk past a sign at a store or public place that says firearms not allowed.
What they don’t know doesn’t hurt them.
The Denny’s in my town closed down. I only went there once or twice but there was never anymore than 5 tables with customers. Just the the best place to eat. Not when there is a perfectly good Waffle House two doors down.
That is a bad mistake by Dennys. If it is the national policy then they need to come out and say so. Or say it is just the one restaurants policy…either way you really don’t want to piss off the cops or firefighters in your community. If they are robbed, then the cops could say: ” well we would have gone in after the bad guy but guns werent allowed”
Another restaurant to avoid is “Buffalo Wild Wings”…they are anti-gun as well.
The Article I read said that it is “Denny’s National Policy to PERMIT, repeat PERMIT On-Duty Police Officers to carry while on Duty in their Restaurants.”
Funny Thing. I’ve never heard of ANY Police Force needing “Permission” from a Private Entity to be Armed while On Duty.
But hey, I eat at IHOP, so what do I know?
My take is Too bad so sad. So the police get a dose of what the rest of us have to deal with. No it’s not right, but now they know how we feel.
Denny’s sucked long before this happened. They’ll suck long after this is forgotten .
Dennys does like feds any better than locals.

We have a couple of local diners that serve large portions of good food at reasonable prices. And they don’t object to licensed carry. Why go anywhere else?
Yep, at first its only the cops shoulds have guns and now they are getting bolder…not even the cops.
I saw my town made the news again! As of this morning’s rag (Fish wrapper is to good for the local paper)Denny’s corporate had made a BIG Mea Culpa and the Chief has recinded the ban.
Annnd Denny’s Corporate is disavowing all knowledge and OF COURSE police officers are welcome…
