Trigger time!!!

A few of my favorite things…

favorite things

A little shooty goodness always makes the day go better! 100 rounds of .22, 100 rounds of .38, 50 rounds of 9mm and 50Β rounds of .45 to get me at least headed in the right direction, and a little training was done too…

15 yards with the .45 after some good warm up, and I was comfortably in the 9 ring with a called flyers high left and 2 o’clock right.

15 yd tgt

The rapid fire, not so much… Geez, pulled left again and @#^#$#$ round dropped low in the 7 ring! GAH!!!

Finished up with about 50 rounds from the 10/22 with suppressor, giggles were had by all, and ‘somebody’ wants a new toy from Christmas…

Much fun was had with a reactive (ball) target too! Although I did get cussed by one of the other folks for hitting it just before she shot (a couple of times)… πŸ™‚

I really need to get out there once a week, I really sucked early in the day. Shooting well IS a perishable skill, and nothing shows that more quickly than a month layoff.

  1. Nice looking shooting irons there Tex.

Well, the simple and obvious answer of course, is to build an underground twenty five yard pistol range at home. Yep, how complicated/difficult could it be? (snicker)

Not only have I failed this year at getting to the range more often, but the LaserLyte full size dry fire pistol is still in the box.

  2. Pretty nice bunch of wheel guns but they look old. I’ll give you 50 Yankee dollars and throw in a Glock 17 in trade for the lot of them. Deal Buddy?

  3. No human skill erodes more quickly than proficiency with a handgun. However, once learned, the skill comes back fairly quickly. Keep shootin’.

    • Perishable Skills for $1,000. What is flying actual IMC?

NFO, that sounds like a wonderful day.

  4. Heading to the range myself today, all things falling into place..

I expect some rather embarrassing moments as I discover exactly how bad I’ve slipped.

  5. “…round dropped low in the 7 ring!” That’s okay. A good ‘nut-bag’ shot is always good, even by mistake. It is just another Darwin Awards way of keeping him from multiplying.

  6. Shooting? Range? I remember those things …

Maybe one of these days I can get back there. Meanwhile, you’re doing pretty well for someone who took a month off. πŸ™‚

  7. I’m jealous. We’ve been investigating ark plans here. I can’t even imagine what the rifle range is like now – I slid around in an inch of mud last time I was out and the rain hadn’the become permanent at that point.

  8. John- Not doing the underground range, but I ‘do’ use the SIRT pistol on a daily basis! πŸ™‚

    Gerry- Sure, sure… NOT! πŸ˜›

Paw- I need ‘remedial’ training… sigh

    Art- Yep, BTDT! πŸ™

    CP-LOL

    Rev-Actually I SUCKED! Grrrr…

Tim- You need to start getting ready for hunting season! πŸ™‚

PH- Hate to hear the weather still hasn’t broken. And you’re a bit far out to run to the NRA range…

  9. Hey Old NFO;

You are correct, pistol skills atrophy quickly, but you can quickly recover them…muscle memory is a good thing πŸ™‚ it reminds me that once this overtime stuff slows down, I need to go to the range and exercise my muscle memory.

  10. Range? What is that? Isn’t that where all the cows hang out? Isn’t it some kind of device the Brigid whips up all those good eats on?

Bottles, cans, assorted fruit, stray crows, targets on a piece of plywood, all in the bottom of a sand pit! That’s as close to a range as I’ve ever got except for Navy Quals.

  11. r- Actual IMC means you are truly in the crap and on instruments only, no sneaking a peek to see where the horizon is. πŸ™

Bob- I find I need 2-3 trips to get the ‘memory’ back if I don’t go regularly!

Ev- I grew up shooting in the river bottoms, so yeah… But in the new and improved America, you gotta play nice…sigh

Ed- And practice with all of them! πŸ™‚

Fargo- Not really, I need MOAR time on the range!!!

  12. Sorry, I learned on wheelguns and I still like wheelguns.

I felt perfectly comfortable going on my shift holstering a Colt Python and carrying a total of a whopping 18 rounds on my person. I carried a backup box of .357 in my patrol briefcase, which was in the trunk. Today’s cop wouldn’t think of hitting the street without a minimum of 50 rounds on the belt.

And my Python was personally custom tuned by Bill Davis.

    Smoooooooothe. . .

  13. I try to shoot dot torture every week with a 22 or 9mm and USPSA every month. I am using a 9mm with a red dot (CO class) instead of 45acp this year in USPSA. Long range targets are easier but I am not as fast yet.

  14. That S&W revolver looks lonely and neglected in among all of those Colts. You really should send it to my place so it can live with it’s own kind.

  15. BZ- Heard that! πŸ™‚

    Rick- Thanks!

Ed- I just can’t get my mind around using a red dot on a pistol… Guess I’m too ‘old school’…

    Liberty- They are Herretts http://www.herrettstocks.com/

Murph- It’s one of my ‘trainer’ pistols. πŸ™‚
