Kalifornia is getting stupid…

Again…

New laws taking effect Jan. 1

A higher minimum wage, a ban on using “Redskins” as the name of a school team or mascot, and new restrictions on assault weapons are among the latest California laws taking effect with the new year:

ASSAULT WEAPONS

Lawmakers passed a package of bills to strengthen California’s already tough gun laws then voters reinforced them by passing even more measures. People who own magazines that hold more than 10 rounds will be required to give them up starting Jan. 1. Buyers must undergo a background check before purchasing ammunition and will be barred from buying new weapons that have a device known as a bullet button.

Gun makers developed bullet buttons to get around California’s assault weapons ban, which prohibited new rifles with magazines that can be detached without the aid of tools. A bullet button allows a shooter to quickly dislodge the magazine using the tip of a bullet.

HANDGUN STORAGE

Law enforcement officers will be required to follow the same rules as civilians by securely storing handguns in a lockbox out of plain view or in the trunk if the weapons are left in an unattended vehicle. SB 869 by Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, closed a legal loophole that had exempted authorities and concealed weapons permit holders from those rules. The move came after stolen guns were used in high-profile crimes.

Additionally, they are going to start doing background checks for purchase of ammo…

And SFO has a crime rate of 70 per 1000… NOT a misprint, 70 crimes per thousand residents… Link HERE. And the lowest number of PD officers of any major city in the US… sigh

  1. Just getting weirder and weirder all the time. What a shame that a wonderful state like that is ruled by people who are bat crap nutz !

Another example – just read that California will be implementing SB 1322. This bill specifies that teenage prostitution will not a crime any more. Well, with certain provisions. Here is a link to it – incredible !

    https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201520160SB1322

It was passed in September 2016. A whole lot of legalese language there. What I took away is that minors will not be arrested for prostitution. Which gives incentives for pimps to recruit / kidnap minors for the purpose of prostitution. Likelihood of more STDs – yup.

    Crazy – just crazy.

Happy New Year my foot !

  2. More polarization of our country. the libworld grows in their worldview of centralized nanny’ism, while the rest of the country seems to be determined to go away from the nanny state.
Angel is SO correct, Jan. 20th cannot come soon enough. I only hope that that the obungler in chief is not able to add MORE roadblocks and disastrous maneuvers in the dwindling time he holds our country by its throat.

  3. >gives incentives for pimps to recruit / kidnap minors for the purpose of prostitution
True. In much the same way that children are used as couriers in low-level (end user) drug transactions. Only much worse. On the other hand, decriminalize prostitution, period. As some prominent economist, IIRC, said, “It involves sex and capitalism, what’s your objection?” On the gripping hand, I’m simultaneously for public evisceration of pimps.

Redskins: would it be trolling to have a redskin potato as the school mascot? Idiots. Eastern Michigan University used to be known as the Hurons. Huron is of course a native tribe local to the area. It is also the name of the river near the EMU campus. A bunch of progressives (almost all white, naturally) got all upset about the cultural appropriation or some such butthurt and demanded the school change its nickname. This despite official representatives from the Huron Tribe saying “We’re fine with EMU calling themselves the Hurons. They have always been respectful, and we Hurons take no offense.” But EMU knuckled under and now it’s the EMU Eagles. Sigh. If they were gonna pick a bird as a mascot surely it should have been the emu.

  4. the only problem with such laws is that when people are forced to live under those laws they don’t much care for them, which in turn causes them to move to states with looser restrictions, then vote for more of the same shit they just moved from. a vicious cycle, indeed.

      • Happening in Texas too, especially after Katrina. Look at what’s already happened in Virginia, North Carolina, Oregon, Washington, and other states.
Think there’s a plan to p!ss off enough people to force migration of libs to other states, turn them purple and blue?
Sounds crazy, but I wouldn’t put it past these goofs…

  5. j.r.- Yep, simply stunning…

LL- I’m trying to get my daughters to do just that, get out before it collapses!

    Angel- Three more weeks, sigh…

Roger- Concur, but the bastard is trying his best… dammit.

    CP- There IS that… sigh

Mike- Agreed! And the stupidity is spreading…

Carl- Excellent point, Austin being the classic example in Texas after all the Sillycon Valley idjits moved down there…

  6. AND – there’s not a single US aircraft carrier deployed anywhere in the world. That’s the first time since WW2. What could possibly go wrong? It’s all part of Obamanation.

  7. LL- Yeah, there are some ‘interesting’ conversations going on at the elephant level over that one, or so I’m told…

  8. Try this–

If you are employed by the state of Kalifornia, and as such are required to travel to North Carolina, your travel expenses are now out of pocket.

“The effect is to ban state-funded travel to North Carolina and other states that may adopt policies like its HB2, the law that struck down local measures protecting gays and lesbians from workplace discrimination and prohibited cities from passing new anti-discriminatory policies.”

  9. Hey Old NFO;

And people wonder why the smart people are bailing out of Cali. But Carl is right, we have the same people vote for these laws, then move to a better area and vote the same. We have a bunch of yankees move south and move to a cheaper area when they retire but they bring their voting habits with them. They don’t understand the cause and effect thingie yet.

  10. EHT- Good point, and the ONLY people this hurts are the employees…

Bob- You’re right, change that to muslims and you get the same twisted logic…

  11. I moved back to Pennsylvania.
    I couldn’t take California anymore.
