But more good news for Vets…

House Passes Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act
Legislation Protects Due Process Rights for Veterans
Fairfax, Va.— The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) applauds the House of Representatives today for passing The Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act (H.R. 1181), a bill that protects the due process rights of veterans, in a 240-175 vote.

“The constitutional rights of our veterans must be strongly protected,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director, NRA-ILA. “The House vote today is a step forward in ensuring our veterans’ rights are not infringed upon.”

The VA has been effectively banning veterans who receive disability benefits and use a fiduciary to help manage those benefits from gun ownership. These individuals are being stripped of their Second Amendment rights by a bureaucratic rule that denies them due process.

There is no data indicating a correlation between needing help managing money and being a danger to oneself or others – the criterion the government must meet before denying a person their Second Amendment rights.

If enacted into law, the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act would ensure that going forward, veterans who use a fiduciary would not be stripped of their  constitutional rights unless a judicial authority first finds they pose a danger to themselves or others. This ensures due process rights for all veterans.

“Needing help managing your money does not make you a danger to society. The NRA is pleased with the House vote today and we look forward to the Senate taking action soon,” concluded Cox.

The NRA thanks Speaker Paul Ryan, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy , Majority Whip Steve Scalise and Chairman Phil Roe for their leadership on this matter.

  1. The Trump Administration has been full of good news and this too is a step in the right direction. It’s a Constitutional step, and that’s always a good thing.

De-funding the National Endowment for the Arts, National Public Radio, etc. have been a long time coming. Why do we pay for artists to make art that they sell (without being obligated to pay back the “loan”)? I realize that the progs are having grand mal seizures, but I find that entertaining too.

    • Same thing for Planned Parenthood. If you support and back abortion, then give your $$ to Planned Parenthood. That is your CHOICE to support them. How many adoption agencies get federal monies to help run their organization? That’s what I’d like to know.

Years ago all of these organizations were supported by charity from their supporters. If they had to manage their operating budgets based on their received donations, there would be a financial revolution.

Until the deficit is gone/significantly reduced, I don’t think the federal government should be giving money to anyone/thing not specified in the Constitution.

  2. And did you see how the MSM is spinning this?!?! The headlines they are writing are just absurd! “The republicans are letting mentally incompetent people buy guns!!”

There are lots of folks who are not great at math, or at smelling out a con man when they call on the phone, do some fast talking, and next thing I have a patient who can’t afford groceries or their meds as their bank account is empty. However, none of the guys (some were vets, some not) I know to whom this has occurred are danger to me or others…well, maybe to the con man if they ever showed up at the door, but they aren’t going out looking for them!!

And many others have family take over the checkbook so the bills get paid when/if they wind up in the hospital.
I had one gentleman get all upset that he wouldn’t be able to go deer hunting with his kids because of this law. He was in his upper 80’s, just liked to go sit in the woods on a nice fall day, and see if he could get a buck. That was his motivation for doing his physical therapy. He only had a 3rd grade education, and had his daughter “do his books” after his wife died.

This was the stupidest law I’ve seen in a while. Glad to see it go away.

  3. LL/Suz- Agree with all!

WSF- Yep, small bites, consistently taken, WILL consume the elephant!

Suz- I need more BP meds to read the news… sigh

  4. And the wild-eyed liberals, Pinocchio Pelosi first comes to mind, are whining and bitching that the Meals On Wheels program is going to be cut, leaving thousands of old folks to starve. That is a flat out lie, and they know it. The Feds supply the Meals On Wheels program with just 3% of their budget. The rest comes from the private sector and individual donations.
This comes from Mark Levin on the radio yesterday. And I would believe him on just about anything before I would ever believe a goddam thing spewing out of a liberal, whining snowflake.

  5. The biggest ‘win’ I see for this passing is that a BIG message is being sent that due process is STILL alive and well in the Republic. That was the problem with a unilateral decision to ignore individual rights in the first place. Of course such is always the first casualty of the left in their one size fits all mentality.

  6. Oh gawd. There are so many people out there who support this anti-gun crap but can’t rub 2 brain cells together. You want to see a profile of someone who shouldn’t own a gun? Post a pic of some spittle spraying anti-Trumper.
