Gun sales slump???

Not so much…

Gun purchase background checks soared to a record for the month of May, snapping a five-month streak of year-over-year declines since President Trump was elected, and suggesting the demand for guns is once again picking up amid world tumult.

More than 1.9 million checks were run through the federal government’s database in May, which is an increase of about 70,000 from the previous May.

And something ‘different’ from Minnisota…

High school trap shooting teams are expanding!

He didn’t say that it’s the fastest-growing high school sport in the state, with more participants than hockey.

He didn’t explain that the sport is co-ed, or that it is safe, with no concussions or torn-up knees.

All he could shout, in the middle of a Tartan High School practice, was, “It’s growing because people realize that it’s awesome!”

His 23-shooter team is one of 343 teams statewide, and evidence of the booming popularity of the sport. The Minnesota Clay Target League, which manages teams and tournaments, is only 9 years old and already has 11,000 participants.

Full article HERE, and that, to me is a positive step! The more young people that get into the sport, the more safe gun handlers we have in the younger generations, and they have no fear of guns, nor are they inclined to be anti-gun…

Now if this would just spread to the blue states… sigh…

Gun sales slump??? — 11 Comments

  1. When I lived with my Dad in Minnawswota, the local high school had a biathlon team.

My shooting almost made up for my skiing…

Biathlon was fun and relatively popular among the schools just north of the cities.

  2. There were still rifle teams, here and there, as I came of age in Missouri. I’m not aware of any, now, but there’s always hope.

  3. Hey Old NFO;

THe uptick can be attributed in my mind for several reasons, 1. The occasional leftist wanting to buy a gun because they are afraid of Trump…small percentage. The Amish are getting “frisky” again with their calls of “Allahu Akbar” and people are starting to see the threat. More light skinned natives are getting tired of the stuff the dark skinned natives are doing. Also there are more people that are buying guns because with Trump as president, it is more fashionable to own a gun, a lot of the stuff the former occupant of the white house are no longer happening.

    Just a thought….

  4. I have a few weapons purchases planned once I get the AZ driver’s license. The People’s Republik is — the worker’s paradise. What more can I say?

  5. My sister in law in MN coached a team until this last year when she had a kid. Looked like a lot of fun for the kids, but a real pain in the backside with logistics getting from school, home to get the gun, then to the range in time to still shoot during daylight. Can’t have a gun in the car at school after all… No rifle teams for anything, but the high school had 2 teams and the Jr High was starting one to help new shooters get better before the HS team started. Kinda like JV teams for other sports.

Also for McThag: Biathlon is a Norwegian word for drive-by with skis.

    • I took “my” rifle home on the school bus a couple times so I could practice over the weekend.

It was so casual compared to the conniptions thrown today.

They say the past is another country… I guess we’re all immigrants.

  6. Sales my be up.

But the Indy 1500 last week was DEAD, I’ve been to that show nearly every two months for the past 15 years sometimes as a vendor. I’ve NEVER seen it that slow.

  7. McT- I never realized they did that over here, I thought that was ONLY in Europe, and our folks went over there to train.

Rev/Gfa- Yep, we had them too.

    Bob- Good point!

LL- Yeah, there IS that. Don’t blame you for waiting!

Ben C- Outstanding! Tell her thanks for us! And snerk… drive by on skis…

WSF- Yep, I remember you talking about that.

B- That’s sad. I’ll check the one here when it comes around.
