TBT…

Up to my alligator in assholes this week, so took a bit of a break. Read Pratchett’s Mort and found my copy of Doc Smith’s First Lensman. But I drug a couple of others out… 🙂

I also have a bunch of old Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey too…

Note the price- 60 CENTS!

And a couple of others, including the First Lensman, which was 50 CENTS!!!

Not saying I’ve had it for a while, but it was published in paperback in 1964, and somehow survived all the moves.

I was asked why I put other authors in the back of my book, with links to their books. This is what is in the back of the First Lensman book. New releases in SF, and Mysteries. A lot of times, you’d see something there, and end up buying another book or two that way.

I know I don’t have the coverage of a real publisher, but if I can steer folks to a good book by an author I enjoy, I’m going to do my best to help them out.

OBTW, 1964 dollar = $7.89 today. So our books ARE reasonably priced against the historic prices (if you’re under $5, that is).

  1. I miss all my old paperback books that I collected over the years in the Navy. This was long before the advent of this internet thingy. I had more boxes of books than all other possessions combined. Then I married a woman who was as much a bookworm as I was and the library doubled in size overnight. One of my cousins absconded with my entire collection of L’Amour. Everything he had in print up till that time. Thank God I still had all my Heinlein. I finally had to get rid of the library the last time I moved across country. The cost and volume would have been ridiculous. Now, I could fit all those books on a Kindle, but I can’t remember all the titles I had. Dammit.

  2. I enjoy the old greats. It’s nice to decompress. I have been surrounded by assholes also. What gives? LOL

  3. My son has just about every Louis L’Amour ever written, they (and he) have survived numerous girlfriends and the ex-wife.

Must be the week for assholes & jackwagons, cause they are plentiful here, too.

  4. There should be a Constitutional Amendment prohibiting more than one Monday in a week. Today’s supposed to be Thursday, but I swear it’s been Monday all freakin’ week!!!!

    • One good thing about the older paperbacks is that I love the cover art. They don’t do art like that anymore.
I guess progressives would cream their genderfluid panties off if they did.

  5. Hey Old NFO;

I found in a locker some books that I loved to read in the mid-70’s and the early 80’s before I joined the Army. IT was fun reading through memory lane. One favorite was the “Ashes” series by W.Johnson. Last of the dog team was very good back then also. I also found a bunch of Star Trek stories 🙂

  6. I have a box of Tom swift books from when I was a kid.
    Couple Tom Corbett also.
That’s science fiction from a while back.

  7. With old (or even new) paperbacks I’ll reinforce the spine of the book with clear package tape to protect it.
