Just as a reminder…

None of these folks will be kneeling for the anthem…

As are most of the people in the stands on BOTH SIDES!

There have been calls for a boycott of all NFL games this weekend, and I happen to agree. Do what you feel is right.

I should be meeting up with a couple of readers today and taking a tour of the National Museum of the Pacific War. It’s in Fredericksburg, TX, and I should have plenty of pics next week!

  1. Enjoy the museum, we went there some years back and were happy with the experience. I believe it was the Nimitz hotel / residence before, correct ?

While you are in the area, the Museum of Western Art in nearby Kerrville may also be worth visiting. We saw an Ace Reid (Cowpokes) cartoon exhibit there years ago and Dad loved it – took years off of his attitude.

    Have a good weekend.

  2. I live just south of there. Welcome to the “deep in the heart of” Texas!

  3. I agree, no NFL in this house. I’m heading to NAS Pensacola today for the annual Blue Angels Homecoming show, should be great as always.

  4. No time for the NFL, I’ll be at the Manatee shooting club, banging away at targets 600 yards away & struggling with the wind & mirage. I’ll be shooting targets, the NFL will be shooting itself in its feet & struggling with its own political correctness.

  5. I haven’t been in some years, I need to get back there and see all the new stuff.

  6. I have to wonder why it’s it Texas…far from the Pacific.

  7. The Museum of the Pacific is great and it’s cool to see the house where Nimitz was born. Several high-ranking WW2 service members were born in Central Texas; north of Fredericksburg was born General Ira Eaker (USAAF) and in Eden to the northwest was born MG James Rudder who commanded the Ranger Battalion at Pointe du Hoc on D-Day.

If you like old-fashioned motor courts, I recommend the Peach Tree Inn about 3 blocks south of the museum. Old-fashioned, very clean, and the cats all have military dog-tags. Enjoy your time and try a beer and food at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company. For breakfast try the Old German Bakery Restaurant located at 225 West Main. Get there early as the tourists love it.

And Enchanted Rock to the north is worth a detour.

  8. I have not watched an NFL game in a month. I get my football fix on Saturday NCAA games. Better games anyway. As for Sunday, thank God for NASCAR.

  9. Enjoy the museum, I was amazed to turn a corner and see a B-25 inside!

  10. All- Thanks for the comments! Reader Rich (who worked there for 15 years), a retired Army guy, gave the tour! It was GREAT!!! And we were joined by Juvat, retired Air Force, so we had a ball! The ‘short’ tour was 6 hours!

    Posted from my iPhone.

  11. Hey Old NFO;

NFL? who’s that…? My football stops at the college level. Enjoy the museum, I plan on checking it out. I remember Henry Fonda as Admiral Nimitz in the movie “Midway” and him talking about his hometown and the nearest body of water and in the summer “making clay pots out of the bottom”, lol
