Typewriter
They had been up in the attic together doing some cleaning. The kids uncovered an old manual typewriter and asked her, “Hey Mom…what’s this?”
“Oh…that’s an old typewriter,” she answered, thinking that would satisfy their curiosity.
“Well what does it do?” they asked.
“I’ll show you,” she said and returned with a blank piece of paper. She rolled the paper into the typewriter and began striking the keys, leaving black letters of print on the page.
“WOW!” they exclaimed, “that’s really cool…but how does it work like that? Where do you plug it in?”
“There is no plug,” she answered. “It doesn’t need a plug.”
“Then where do you put the batteries?” they persisted.
“It doesn’t need batteries either.” she continued.
“Wow! This is so cool!” they exclaimed. “Someone should have invented this a long time ago!”

There are some ‘interesting’ things in it… But I’d really like to see the actual FISA memo that was presented to the judge. 1 a and b, 3 a, and the admission by McCabe that without the dossier there would be no FISA investigation tells me they were truly going rogue at that point, and setting their own agenda, laws be damned… Somebody(s) should be brought up on charges for this, starting with McCabe, and Comey.
Listen, I haven’t been in combat* so I’m probably talking out of my anus but I think it’s time for a shooting war. But in those wars it was a foreign opposing force whereas today that enemy is domestic. To me, that make all the difference. I’ve been alive long enough to have lived in and had known a country (which I love) and that is not what I see today. Sure, mostly the people haven’t changed but it is this damn current government, local, state, and federal which is far out of control. And the subversive elements in society, in MY country.
Is life so precious, even in our golden years which should be for peaceable living, that we should not stand opposed to those treasonous persons who seek to abolish the country you knew so that that your children, and their children should not relish in that you hold so dear? It is an extraordinary offense that those persons should so act when under the color of authority. Should we continue to look to government to cure it’s own ills, the very same which are inflicted upon the people? God help us.
For my country and the posterity of those great men and women before me who have withstood the terrors, I am willing.
* But I know many who have. Including my own dad and uncles and my F-I-L and none of them want to talk of it. Understandably so for the horrors of war.
We don’t have a convenient geographical divide.
The enemy looks just like your brother or son, and may well be your uncle or cousin or sister.
Which may well be part of the reason the shooting hasn’t already started. It certainly shuts down my desire to pull out a weapon. Two of the enemy would be my mother and sister.
NO!!!! If it comes to a shooting war, that’s one thing. I haven’t fired a shot in anger in over 40 years (fired a couple in fear more recently, but that was while hog hunting) but I still remember how it’s done. Doesn’t mean I want to do it again. As mentioned, this time the targets will be friends and relatives, people I know, folks I grew up with, went to school with, even some I’ve served with. Political disagreements don’t seem to reach the level needed to make me throw down on them.
I want to know who the judge was. Contreras?
And HIS political motivation.
I found the typewriter story rather amusing. I’ve always wanted to hand a kid a slide rule and watch him try to measure things with it.
We had an engineer at work who kept a slide rule in a glass case on his wall. The sign said “In case of power failure, break glass.”
(He’s also the one who said “Never trust an engineer who won’t get his hands dirty. If he won’t get dirty, all he knows is book learning, he’s got no practical experience.”)
Jim, is this after they whine that it only goes up to nine inches? 🙂 My father-in-law used to amaze new engineers by solving design problems with his slide rule, while they were still punching numbers into calculators. I’ll do a similar first-order approximation on some work in my head, which makes the kids, er, new tech staff stare in amazement. The stare is because they think they should hear creaking gears in the dinosaur head. Problem solving is way different from critical thinking and problem process.

Ok, so it would have been fun to be a fly on the wall when the judge(s) found out that they had been had, assuming they hadn’t been in on it from the beginning.
But what really fluffs my fur is the ABSOLUTE arrogance that assumes they could do whatever, and no one would ever question or find out. That single fact tells me right there that the size of government is waaay too big and needs to be “streamlined”. I’m hoping that the rule about assuming is proven true and we The People can make a$$es of them.
Kudos to The Donald for signing off on letting this memo become public, as well (hopefully) as the rest of this steaming mess. Because I am as sure as can be that we have not seen the end of the mess. When draining swamps, lots of mud gets thrown around and needs to be dug through.
One inconvenient truth the Dems/Libs seem to forgotten is that with access to the internet, average Job Blow on the street can go home, turn on his ‘puter, and look up the US Code of Justice. We can go see for ourselves what laws have been broken, and we need to continue to hold our Congresscritters’ feet to the fire so they remember who writes the paychecks, and what their responsibility to the Constitution and the public is.

No, No, a thousand times NO!
Jefferson said: “…all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable,…” And he said it for a very good reason. War is a horrible thing – especially a Civil War. And once started, the conclusion cannot be foreseen.
Do you think those people who ordered the bombardment of Ft. Sumter would have done so if they knew the end point would be Appomattox and a devastated south? Do you think the Tojo government and the Japanese militarists would have followed through with the attack on Pearl harbor if they knew the endpoint was Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
War isn’t just horror for the combatants. It’s horror for everyone. Your loved ones, my loved ones, and people we don’t even know – most of whom don’t have any desire but to live their lives in peace.
It’s true. Sometimes war is inevitable.Sometimes it’s beginning is beyond your control. But it should be a *last* resort. We are not at that point – yet.

while thumbing thru the blogisphere today I found the most ugly, dispicable blog that I have ever seen befor. It is called Progressive Eruptions, written by the most disgusting women I have ever read in my 65 years on this earth.
First Item: Friend was typing up a paper when niece looked in and said “Cool! A keyboard and printer in one.”
Second Item: Our Domestic Enemies are not sane. I do not say that lightly but when the Nunes memo was released yesterday several acquaintances said it PROVED!! Trump was guilty. They see the same words we do but don’t allow those words to affect their beliefs. Not going to be settled quietly.

I spent four years in the Army Security Agency, the first learning how to copy morse code and the other three in Germany intercepting commies, with two big R-390 receivers and a manual Remington Typewriter with a platen that had teeth to feed six ply carbon paper that came like computer paper in boxes of 50 attached sheets and we had to hit the keys hard enough to make six copies. I could copy up to 35 – 40 WPM if they were East Germans who sent good code, some of the other Eastern folks were sloppy and seldom sent over 20 WPM. I can still type around 30 words per min. and I do like my little computer keyboard. So much for that manual typewrite crap and I don’t ever need to do that again.
Now as for the crap in Washington, we do not need guns and I hope we never need guns because there are always unintended consequences in any violent confrontation and while some folks annoy me they don’t need to be killed. If a shooting war, and it would be a war were ever to happen in a country with three million people it could and would become a disaster, especially since this is not a regional conflict.
I also wonder, since real war, shooting and scooting is a young man’s game, where are you going to get your soldiers, I suspect those of us on the right could round up a whole lot more than the left but, and this is a big butt, it takes a huge amount of support staff for the training, beans and bullets and then taking care of the wounded, on both sides, the burying and the prisoner of war camps while making more arms, training more troops and all that stuff in a civil war and of course controlling the media as best as possible.
I am old and I hope, in my lifetime, the lifetime of my kids and my grandkids we keep on winning with the ballot box because we actually are making some headway at this time. We need to stay the course and we are currently in the driver’s seat even though we have to go through rough weather and high winds. (Not a bad metaphor if I say so myself and, I do.)
Item # 6 – first they have to read it. Most have never read it nor do they understand the history behind the document.
All – it can and will eventually come to a shooting war. History shows us this, in relentless chapters printed in red. The coming conflict is inevitable, because the Left wants to exterminate us and our culture, and we actual Americans do not wish to be exterminated. There is no point of compromise between these two views.
But do not think this will be a “clean” civil war like the previous unpleasantness between the States. This will be a war like Bosnia, with multiple sides fighting, allying, and betraying one another. In my estimation, the breakup of our country into several separate, ethnic and political nations has the lowest body count (10-30 million). If we make a fight for the whole entire country, we can expect to lose fully half our current population. And that’s assuming that others don’t take advantage of the situation to help make things worse.
Of course, there is a chance that a peaceable divorce could be arranged, with States allying into regional groups. That would just leave the mass exodus, often at gunpoint, of groups in the wrong States. This will make for a new Trail of Tears, but everywhere, in every direction, all at once. It will be like central Europe after the World Wars.
