AIs and Hate Speech…

According to Zukie, Facebook’s ‘people’ are designing AIs to do all kinds of ‘back office’ functions, including defining ‘hate speech’…

But you can see his answers HERE to Rep Scalise’s questions..

Which nobody, h.uman or otherwise, can actually define. But according the Facebook, the two black ladies known as Diamond and Silk are terrorists!!! Link HERE for those questions.

One of the things I noticed was how truly incompetent most of the questioners were. They didn’t actually have a clue about what they were asking Zukie… Much less be smart enough to actually understand those few answers he gave… I really was wishing some of the legislator’s staffs had been the questioners, at least they have a clue about FB and its ins and outs…

My opinion, there was a lot of shucking and jiving on Zukie’s part. Claims that ‘his team’ would get back with the legislators, and I was amazed at the number of times he got away with the “I don’t have that answer.”

I think it will be interesting to see what the follow up is, and what’s going to happen when/if these AIs get rolled out, if they are ever publicized. I know I’ve cut back what little time I spend on FB, so I’m only on it maybe an hour or so a week…

YMMV, IANAL, and I’m a grumpy old man…

AIs and Hate Speech… — 16 Comments

  1. It’s ok to be a grumpy old man. You have lots of company. There’s speculation that Zuckerberg is actually a cyborg/lizard mix wearing a skin suit. There was nothing in the hearings that suggested otherwise.

    Congress is inept.

  2. I thought Ted Cruz’ questions were enlightening, but I only saw clips preselected for me to view.
Did an AI select which clips I’d see?

  3. Hate speech, like hate crime is mostly in the eye of the beholder. If a white man calls a black man a N***** he is a racist using hate speech. If a black man calls a Jew a Hy*** he is just expressing his frustration with “white privilege.” The list goes on and on. It does become somewhat amusing when protected persons (black, hispanics, muslims, etc.) go off the reservation, and actually espouse something other than the (leftist/facist) party line.

    • Yeah, then they are “race traitors” and need to be destroyed.

  4. He paid them off. A week before he had facebook give donations to EVERY single one of those on the committee.

  5. Hey Old NFO;

Yes you are grumpy, but we are cool with that. I heard that Everyone on that committee got a “donation” to their PAC for reelection. Most of those clowns asking the question were trying to softball the questions as to keep the gravy coming.

  6. Ditto on what everyone here said. It’s a set piece, designed to make us think things are getting done. The number of softballs thrown puts the Little League to shame.

  7. It is easy to define hate speech. Hate speech consists of any words, phrases, or statements that offend one or more non-conservative members of any demographic or special interest group that tends to vote Democrat.

  8. Hey! You ain’t so old! Now I can’t vouch for the grumpy part.

  9. Sure, the questioners were incompetent. What do you expect?

If you could get the right group together and grill Zuckerberg about FB, AI, what ZuckFace wants to ban, and how AI will do it, the great unwashed watching the interrogation take place would change the channel in ten seconds or less. No one, except the interrogation team, would understand what ZuckFace was saying, and I don’t think any of them would be capable of giving an explanation that any elected official would even begin to understand.

Our elected officials aren’t vetted for fitness for duty. All they’ve done is won a popularity contest, and it shows. Their number one priority is being re-elected, at the cost of anything else – or everything else.

My own not so terribly humble opinion is a resounding, So what? So ZuckFace is using information that I, the idiot user, made available to him. I expected him to do this, and he did it. Moreover, he’s not alone. Lots of IS developers are doing the same thing – a friend of mine is making the big bucks doing this, along with his brother. They’re both very bright young men.

Email is another good example. The word ‘mail’ implies privacy, which there isn’t. There never was. The rule with email is, Never put anything in email that you aren’t prepared to shout in a crowded room.

If you want real privacy, use public key encryption and compile the source code yourself – after you’ve eliminated the back door.

Now if you’ll pardon me, they drop the puck in 40 minutes and I don’t want to be more than fashionably late to the bar.

    Cheers!

  10. AI programmed to protect people from other people. Because that works out so well in science fiction.

    • I get the feeling that Zuckerberg et al didn’t read the same sci-fi that the rest of us did. The Cybermen were a warning, not a good idea. Hal 9000 wasn’t the hero of the movie.
