  1. Sadly, this will be the first year that a Pearl Harbor survivor will not be in attendance. The Greatest Generation is leaving us too fast.

  2. A close friend passed away last Spring. He wasn’t at Pearl Harbor, but was a Merchant Marine, when they had almost no protection, and the Germans were sinking ships silhouetted by the lights of the ports they just left. Like many, he was serving his country, without any intention of glory, or recognition.

Pearl Harbor galvanized the United States. Such things shouldn’t require a great disaster to happen. The greatness of this country is the citizens, and those that are now almost gone were some of the best the country ever has known.

    • FDR’s ‘No Blackout Plan’ is one of the many reasons I hope he’s living a hot life somewhere.

Funny that back then you were expected to life life to the fullest with no consequences but now in Florida they’ll kill you (figuratively) if you live on the beach and have lights showing during turtle hatching season.

  3. CP- Yes, sad.

    Jess- Amen!

Beans- Wow, I didn’t realize it had gotten THAT bad down there.

    • Some places they’ll charge you with a felony for leaving your back-porch light on.

And if it’s a felony charge, that means they’ll serve a warrant with SWAT. SWAT means a bunch of amped up LEOs who may not respect your personal rights during the serving of the warrant. So, well, yes, the possibility of being killed over tuuuuurtles does exist, and is something people on the beaches do have to live with during hatching season.

Now if they’d just get all the 3rd worlders to stop eating turtles, the populations would spring back in 5 to 10 years. But, nooooo.

Better yet, allow the farming of endangered turtles and require 10% be released to the wild. You’d see sea turtles suddenly become as populous as American Alligators. But noooooo.

      • I am 80 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. I have lights on every side of my house and garage. That would sure be a large felony.

  4. This day is always a day of remembrance for me. My great uncle Dale was there, USS Honolulu. My grandad followed him into the navy as a Seabee. did a lot of building and a lot of fighting.
