So we have something over 1000 boots on the ground in Iraq, but SOFA???

So what happens if they have to defend themselves???

Are they now liable under Iraqi law?  With no SOFA, I think they are!

NOT a good situation!!!

But is the administration doing anything to fix this?  Nothing that I can find… Anybody know different?

  1. My cynical side says that there are elements in this admin that would welcome the prosecution of US troops by an Iraqi court as advancing a multinational agenda.

I’m not saying there aren’t enough grownups who realize just how bad that would be politically.

  2. Is that two boots per, or is only one boot on the ground at a time?
    Sorry.
No matter how many boots, they sure are exposed.

  3. Hey, there’s a tee time coming up. Gotta keep your priorities straight.

  4. This isn’t the time to serve under the standard. I never thought that I’d say that, but it’s true.

I have stories from Norway but it will have to wait until Hodads…I’m embarrassed by the ObamaNation.

The problem with soldiers and marines is that they must trust their lives to national command authority and that authority is not trustworthy.

Obama – Clinton – Kerry – Hagel, etc.? Really. Can any of them figure out how to pour sand out of a boot if there’s not a wad of $$$ inside of it?

  5. Odssyeus- Sadly I think you’re right…

Ed- Depends on if they are marching…

    PH- Yeah… sigh

LL- Agreed, dammit… And without instructions, they couldn’t FIND the money…

    Ed- That they are…

  6. Hey Old NFO;

That is a concern for me and especially for those that are in the service now..With no SOFA, and no guarentees of American due process in the case of an incident. The justice system especially in these 3rd world crapholes are hit or miss where justice is related to who your tribe are and who your family is and who your patron is.

  7. Don’t Worry! I just hear Obama’s Press Conference, and what we have been doing for the last week in Iraq is the MAXIMUM Amount of Military Force he plans on using. Now that everything is Hunky-Dory with the New Iraqi Gooberment, he said things should straighten out as soon as they all come together in a New, Diverse, Respectful Government!

  8. Bob- I know, that is what worries me…

Randy- Thanks!!! I never found that one!

    Les- Yeah, right…
