Random things…

Downtime- We can ALL use a bit of that…

Spent yesterday with Phlegmmy and Lawdog and the usual suspects out in Texas, and it was truly a nice break to just sit in the back yard, drink nerd beer and chat with all the various folks.  It was also a pleasure to finally meet Sci-Fi and his lovely wife, and they even brought Labstahs from Bastan…  But I don’t think they were quite ready for the 96-100 degree temps and ‘barrenness’ of Central Texas 🙂

This one is for AD and Murph…

Patience…

And for those who were in the discussion yesterday, THIS is the comparison I was talking about…

George W. Bush speech after capture of Saddam:

The success of yesterday’s mission is a tribute to our men and women now serving in IraqThe operation was based on the superb work of intelligence analysts who found the dictator’s footprints in a vast country. The operation was carried out with skill and precision by a brave fighting force. Our servicemen and women and our coalition allies have faced many dangers in the hunt for members of the fallen regime, and in their effort to bring hope and freedom to the Iraqi people. Their work continues, and so do the risks. Today, on behalf of the nation, I thank the members of our Armed Forces and I congratulate ’em.

Barack Obama speech after killing of bin Laden:

And so shortly after taking office, I directed Leon Panetta, the director of the CIA, to make the killing or capture of bin Laden the top priority of our war against al Qaeda, even as we continued our broader efforts to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat his network.
Then, last August, after years of painstaking work by our intelligence community, I  was briefed on a possible lead to bin Laden. It was far from certain, and it took many months to run this thread to ground. I met repeatedly with my national security team as we developed more information about the possibility that we had located bin Laden hiding within a compound deep inside of Pakistan. And finally, last week, I  determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and I authorized an operation to get Osama bin Laden and bring him to justice. Today, at my direction,
the United States launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad , Pakistan.

Say what you want, spin it however you want, but there IS a difference in perspectives between the two presidents…

  1. Can’t say I really cared for either of them, but Bush did know how to give credit to someone else from time to time, especially in military matters. Maybe that was because he saw himself as one of them. I always got that impression, anyway.

  2. Murphy is not smart enough to have that kind of patience. For he is young, and ignorant in the ways of skunks.

And Bush has never been one to fail to share credit, whereas B.O. has never been one to fail to yell “Hey! Look at ME!” every chance he could.

  3. WSF- Good point

    Robert- Understood

Murph- He won’t be forever 🙂 And yes, Bush ALWAYS shared the credit and accepted the blame!

  4. Absolutely a great Post NFO! Sounds like a great chat.

0bama is a nightmare that I have not been able to get away from.

  5. It was a delight to see your bad self, as always! Thanks so much for coming out and charming us all with your presence. Can’t wait till the next gathering of our tribe. 🙂

And yeah, there’s no comparison. The former president is a class act, all the way. Agree with their choices or not, he and his father both were decent and duly respectful of the men and women in our armed forces who put their lives on the line on a daily basis– I never felt they took those folks for granted. That other one, OTOH, well, it’s all about HIM, innit?

  6. It was great to see you, NFO! The lobster was indeed delectable, and SCI-FI and Missus SCI-FI aren’t the only ones who had issues with the heat. It’s already 100 here! Crap.

  7. Sounds like y’all had a real nice day!

    Good comparison of the speeches.

Big O’ is on seriously narcissistic bastard. When they show him surrounded by clapping troops, I always wonder what rock they were found under.

Makes one pine for the days of Bush, even with his flaws. At least the man had class.

  8. I used the Presidents’ words to reply to this little thing, we didn’t expect better with Obama, just his hope on our changing. I don’t change much.

    OBAMA’S OWN WORDS TRAP HIM:

2008: “Navy Seal Team 6 is Cheney’s private assassination team.”
2011: “I put together Seal Team 6 to take out Bin Laden.”

2008: “Bin Laden is innocent until proven guilty, and must be captured alive and given a fair trial.”
2011: “I authorized Seal Team 6 to kill Bin Laden.”

2008: “Guantanamo is entirely unnecessary, and the detainees should not be interrogated.”
2011: “Vital intelligence was obtained from Guantanamo detainees that led to our locating Bin Laden.”

    wv – suretali Google rocks!
