One worth watching…

Got this one via the mil-email chain…

Historic pics from Kingman in 1947-48 as all the bombers were destroyed…

As you watch, take a look at the numbers of bombing missions these birds survived, and how many were patched in various ways and places!

Another thing I find interesting is the nose art, and the preponderance of female images.  Some of these birds still had crew names on the various positions, and one can only wonder the stories those birds could tell, if they could talk!!!

  1. Reminds me of the movie, The Best Years of Our Lives.
At the end, William Holden, unemployed, having flown in them, sits in one as they’re about to demolish it, and phoenix-like rises from it’s “ashes”.

  2. The embedded video was missing the right side on my system so I could not enlarge it to full screen. Here’s the link to the YouTube page for the full video:

  3. They wouldn’t be allowed to have any nose art never mind some of the art those planes had in todays PC world.

  4. OK, that’s just sad. I’ve been sitting here figuring out how to go back in time and save a few dozen then put them in storage for 2012 me.

  5. Mrs B and I vacationed out in AZ while I was still active duty.
I got to drive around the boneyard at Davis-Monthan. It was great fun. (Until I found aircraft that I had actually worked on as a young Airman)

  6. Angus- Thanks!

    Murph- Yeah… sigh

MSgt- At least you only found ONE! Two of mine are in museums, and at least one other is on a stick now…
