OPSEC…

As some of y’all know, I’ve been bitching about this for quite a while…  With the 24 hour news cycle, media are ‘desperate’ for the next scoop, the next ‘big’ story, etc. And their management don’t give a shit about military security, OR the people leaks can kill…

This video, while long at 22 minutes, lays out in plain language what the real impact of these ‘leaks’ are.  It’ NOT an academic exercise, this is about REAL PEOPLE, and real lives, and potential for your son/daughter/father/mother to end up dead!!!

OPSEC is NOT a game, nor should it be a pawn in a re-election campaign…

You can read the entire article HERE on it, with of course, the push back from the administration.

Watch this for what it says, and listen to these folks who’ve been there/done that.  They are talking about their friends, family, and bigger family of the Special Operations/Intel world.  There is a reason there are ONLY stars and not names on the wall at CIA headquarters… They understand that leaks compromise not only people but ongoing intelligence operations that may be critical to keeping our folks alive.

  1. And not just OPSEC….COMSEC too! While OPSEC was really not a concern most of the time in the hospital setting “need to know” was drilled into us daily so OPSEC and COMSEC were just twins who lived in your daily life.

And while I used to goof about the Navy and their “This is not a secure line” when they answered the phone, it WAS a constant reminder that someone COULD be listening.

  2. Loose lips sink ships.

Hell, there’s been times that I’ve been told “Get on the plane” and wasn’t sure where I was going. Didn’t need to know.

  3. Can you imagine trying to pull off something like the D-Day landings with the current administration and media? Hitler would have been sitting at Normandy licking his chops.

The only reason bin laden got bagged was because no one told the White House about it until the last minute.

  4. This administration cares little for the military, the people who serve or the security of this nation. As long as he gets to sit in the big-boy seat, he will sacrafice our service men and women, our financial security, our national security and the future of our kids and grandkids.

    It’s going to get worse . . . . .

    • It’s not that they don’t understand. They just simply don’t care. It’s all about them and screw the people who are actually putting their lives on the line.

  5. We had this very discussion last week as we toured the Museum of the Pacific. The ‘because someone talked’ propaganda posters and the KIA telegrams that specifically asked the family not to tell anyone what ship or unit their son was attached to are so foreign to our kids. Today we have CNN waiting on the beach for a SEAL landing. The worst of it is the American people’s sense of entitlement, the whole ‘transparency’ argument. People think they have some right to know everything our military does.

  6. Shipmate, you and I know both know there are things and events and gear and stuff we did or worked on that we will NOT talk about, even though the History Channel has done 3 Documentaries. There’s a REASON for a “Top Secret” classification. Getting SICK of these Bastards claiming “Bragging Rights” for stuff they’d be peeing their pants if THEY had to do it themselves.

  7. Joey- Yep, good point!

    Paw- No question!!!

    Tim- Nope… and concur

    eia- “dead” on the money…

Agirl- Yep, and I’m ‘sure’ your hubby knows about this too!

    Matt- Good point!

Harper- Yep, and as long as it’s NOT THEM, they don’t care…

    Les- Concur!
