Well, it looks like the rats are deserting the sinking ship…

Briefing reporters Tuesday ahead of the hearing, State department officials were asked about the administration’s initial — and since retracted — explanation linking the violence to protests over an American-made anti-Muslim video circulating on the Internet. One official responded, “That was not our conclusion.” He called it a question for “others” to answer, without specifying.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter, and provided no evidence that might suggest a case of spontaneous violence or angry protests that went too far.

Drawing the ire of the gun lobby, Cook County Board President Preckwinkle is eyeing a violence tax on guns and ammunition sold in the city and suburbs, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.

“If we were to pursue a tax on something like guns and ammo, clearly that wouldn’t be popular with the [gun lobby] out there, and it may not generate $50 million, but … it is consistent with our commitment to pursuing violence reduction in the city and in the county,” Kurt Summers, Preckwinkle’s chief of staff, said on Monday.

  1. If they simply armed the honest people in Chicago, violence would decrease (perhaps after some of the people that Obama organized were planted – or maybe they’d simply move on to some other liberal hell hole like Detroit).

    And the whole Libya cover-up, the lies and bullshit, was shoved at us so that Obama could claim that he had (almost single handedly) wiped out Al Qaeda.

    But the blush is off the rose with the magic One. Where is his buddy Oprah? And even the mainstream media (which ignored Fast and Furious) is reporting on the Libyan debacle. Maybe their hypocrisy has its limits? Who’d a thunk?

  3. My wife has literally been in tears, worrying about an Obama second term. I’ve been telling her to relax…

    Yeah, all those gun laws in Chicago worked so well that of course another one should be passed.

  7. I can tell you State has always been cheap on protecting anyone besides top tier people. Most people in embassies are not US citizens so they are considered expendable.

    I know this bothers the proffesionals in the protective services and the intelligence agencies. When we worked on harding up infrastructure, they always ended up dropping the programs due to funding. While this was happening, State and DOD bought all sorts of toys for the locals at 100X the cost.

  11. It’s so sad that why do they need to create an anti-muslim video? Why can’t we just have peace and respect each others religion? If they are talking about the end of the world, then this must be it- the war of the religions.
