I ‘think’ I hit a nerve…

The previous post on my feelings about being up the creek seem to have hit a nerve with some folks…

Two emails I’ve received this morning are worth sharing…

Man, that one hit close to home.  As you know I was laid off in July, and still haven’t found a job. Guess 24 years in the Navy, degree and certification as a safety engineer and 20+ years of experience isn’t good enough anymore. Well, that and the fact that I’m 65.

I finally got the house sold two weeks ago in Xxxxxx, Ca  didn’t get what it was worth, but after 28 years I got enough to buy a small place elsewhere.  Pretty f**king sad that retired pay plus SSI and I had a choice of paying bills/taxes or eating in this ‘new’ economy.

Been staying with Dad in Xxxxx, CA and at 89 he’s scared he won’t be able to pay his new property taxes, other CA taxes etc. even though the house is paid off. Since he’s even more limited on income than I am, he’s now wondering if HE should sell and move in with me.

If he does, I guess it will be the two of us against the world.  Found a decent little place outside Xxxxx, Tx and I can pay it off with what I’m getting.  It will be a shame, because my family’s been in California since the late 1800s.  Don’t know how dad is going to handle being that far from Mom’s grave.

And before you start, F**K you, I’m NOT going to be a Walmart greeter.  Don’t have the aptitude or the patience either you asshole… J

Still waiting on VA to give me a disability percentage, now going on two years since I filed. Don’t know what is going to happen there either.

I truly feel for your daughters and grandson, they are not going to be happy with the bill they are going to have to pay.  At least we won’t be around to get blamed.

Subject: Screw em!

Let them go off the cliff, that is the only f++king way the democrats will EVER cut an entitlement.  I think the republicans should just walk away, let it happen and let the administration take the hit.  We’re screwed anyway, regardless of what happens.

Yeah, the military would be hosed, but better all at once that death by a thousand cuts from the nickel dime shit, all that would lead to is more deaths due to shitty equipment.

I’m waiting for them to cut my social security anyway, since I’ve got a mil retirement too.  With Tricare going up, prescription costs going up and Vi retiring next month, we’ve gone max conserve to just try to stay even; I know we’ll never get ahead.

Unfortunately, I also agree across the board. I don’t have a clue whether anyone will blink or not. In my mind it doesn’t matter. I think that the damage has already been done. The only question to me is whether it all falls apart quickly or slowly. With Obama’s re-election, I think it may happen sooner rather than later.

I’m doing everything I can to be as self sufficient as possible. The less I have to depend on anyone, the better off I’ll be!

Good luck everyone, it’s gonna be a rough year!

The best way to instill a socialist/communist government is to crash the economy and force the folks to “willingly” depend on you. This administration has zero plans to help the economy. The worse it gets, the better it is for them.

I think we are going to see a lot of service industry (hotels, grocery stores, etc) jobs go to either 3×8 days/hours or 2×10 days/hours and people will work 2 of them. They will work 3×8 for Company A on Mon-Wed and work 2×10 for Company B on Thurs/Fri.

We will see.

It seems the consensus is bend over here it comes… REGARDLESS of which way things go…

N-91 agrees with the emails, and I think Larry’s point raises another issue, in that if you’re working a split for two companies, you might be getting your 40 hours, but you won’t have any vesting, benefits, 401K opportunities or anything along that line…

Which, as Agirl points out forces that ‘dependence’ on government to provide for you/yours, hence the dependency spiral accelerates until all the money is gone, then what???

I think at this point, just let it happen, and get it over with…

Frito is right, if we keep nickle and diming the military, it WILL kill people due to aging equipment, material failures, lack of parts/maintenance.

Guess I’ll be looking for a job like all the rest and hoping to hang on till I die…

NOT what I’d planned…

  1. It’s going to be ugly, regardless of what happens (or DOESN’T happen) in D.C.

On the other hand, you could take Turbo-Tax Timmy’s word for it; i.e., ‘we can’t be broke – we still have ink & paper.’

  2. It’ll be the Weimar Republic all over again.
Just waiting for them to come after our guns, gold, and bibles……

  3. It is going to get ugly but Obama won’t be here to see it. He is on his way for a few weeks and $4mil vacation if HI. With any luck, Jaws will be swimming off the coast.

  4. Based on decisions which will be announced very shortly in my industry, I plan to “go Galt” and simply do everything that I do outside of the US with non-US governments/firms and leave it at that. This doesn’t mean that I don’t want to be an American. Far from it. There simply isn’t a place for me here anymore. I have a lot of unique skills that I can market outside of stocking shelves at WalMart for 28 hours a week at minimum wage.

I’m not particularly depressed about it and have been setting things up to go in that direction since Summer, while keeping open the thought that a Republican Administration might somehow be installed. It wasn’t and I will simply find my income elsewhere. (Thus my blogging may be curtailed in large part after the first of the year. We will see.)

  5. Mrs. Crucis and I are debating whether to pay off our house. We can but it’ll empty our emergency funds. We’re on a fixed income too. It’ll take a long time to replenish our emergency fund—if we have that much time.

  6. Rev- Yep… sigh

drjim- It IS looking that way isn’t it…

    Matt- concur

CP- Nah, they’d make the SEALs shoot it…

    LL- Heard ALL that. Hmmmm….

ADM- Yes, they WILL run out of OPM sooner rather than later!

Crucis- I know what you mean. Hard choice!

  7. I often wonder what happened to those who joined the service when I did in the post WWII period and who served a career, raising a family, buying a home, retiring to a second career and now observing a bunch of whiners who think somehow, that because we have elected a black man to the presidency, that the country is going to hell in a handbasket and that we have to support the Repulbican party who are the only hope.

Where is the grip on reality you were supposed to have? Do you recall an administration that cut taxes, cared nothing about deficits and then raised taxes far beyond what they needed to be (aka the sainted Ronnie). And how the GWB group who cut taxes and started two wars, running the wars in off budget appropriation sessions as if that somehow would make the deficits go away.

Grow up guys. Nobody is coming for you guns, your money, or anything else. You’re a drain on the budget but no one begrudges that since you served. Now you want to cut the amounts that go to old people, ensure that those who have so little they cannot afford to feed a family and also buy health insurance so they should just die if they become ill or injured? What happened to your humanity? Grow up and quit belly aching and go out and work toward solutions. Tax the millionaires since after all, being nice to the “job creators” hasn’t really helped unless you want a job as a WalMart greeter. Please don’t talk to me about the Wiemar Republic, because I remember it and if you do not, you failed to pay attention to history.

Please, try to get real and quit crying in your soup.

    Just another retired mustang LCDR.

  8. WSF- Agreed!

Jim- I don’t give a shit what COLOR the guy is, it’s the POLICIES that the adminstration is trying to implement via regulation since they can’t pass legislation that has me concerned… I DO NOT want to see a Carter repeat, and if you were honest, you’d admit that only raising taxes will mean there will be NO cuts…

And I quit crying a LONG time ago. I made my decisions and I live with them, and take responsibility FOR them.

  9. Your friend Skippy is in for a surprise. I have been fighting with the VA for seven years trying to get my connection percentage raised. 4 years ago I had to hire a lawyer. The very fact that there are law firms in this country with names like Legal help for Veterans should say something about the way vet’s are treated. I have been disabled since 04 and living on the pittance that the VA and SS provide is a real joy. It’s so little both me and the wife are having to work part time jobs just to make ends meet.

  10. Yeah, then after the SEALS shot it, he had it hung up and a picture made with him and the shark, because he killed it.

  11. LL- yeah…

Robert- I’ll let him know. Sorry to hear they’re screwing you.

    CP- Probably…

  12. Ah, the racist card. We’re past that Mr. Pickering. It simply won’t work on us any more. That ship has sailed. Those of us who live in the present also have a firm grasp on history and reality and both show a clear path toward financial collapse and further encroachments of American Liberty.

Bombast whilst covering one’s eyes and screaming Racist at the top of your lungs isn’t going to change what’s coming.

  13. If you think racism is gone, then I question your grip on reality. And, any financial collapse can be laid squarely at the feet of the Republican Party.

Enjoy the view of the blinders you’re wearing. Reality exists for the rest of us.

  14. Six- Concur

Jim P- Well played, both a racist statement AND a slam on the Republicans in one comment!!! Very good, however I’m not now, nor have I been wearing blinders… I will lay the blame squarely on BOTH parties and the Administration and that sir is NOT racist nor is it partisan. THAT is reality…

  15. You may lay blame wherever you choose. That’s the great thing about this country. Opinions will differ and we can still be reasonable, but I believe that the Republican party as it is now implemented with its Tea Party brethren has departed from any semblance of reality and has stepped into insanity. Your opinion may differ but that is mine. And with that, I bid you Good Day and that’s the end of my comments as I do have some other things to do. Good luck and enjoy.

  16. Yup those nasty ol Tea Party people with our STUPID ideas that laws ought to be based on Constitutionally derived authority and that defending sovereignty ought to be at least an “implied task” for the Executive.
Yup we’re ALL a buncha paranoid racists, us bitter-clingers.
Yes, BOTH parties spent OUR money like a Seaman Deuce on first liberty – the current administration just exponentially accelerated that. I certainly am NOT going to pay off my house faster; I’ll just keep paying that fixed rate mortgage with whatever green crap Timmy and Ben supply- at least THAT price won’t reflect the devaluation of the FRN’s or rubles or whatever junk the Fed prints. Time may come when my mortgage payment might be the same as the cost of a can of Spam.
Yeah, I’m in better shape than my kids will be – except they can come and live off the land with me; I’ll be happy to add them to the WatchBill; hell, I’ll most likely NEED to add them to the WatchBill…
