Several California professors slammed the Berkeley Police Department after it posted the mugshots of Antifa protesters arrested Sunday at a rally where windows were smashed, citizens were punched and “dozens of weapons” were confiscated by cops.
Berkeley cops said Sunday that 20 people were arrested demonstrating against a rally organized by so-called “alt-right” groups. The mugshots of those arrested, their names and what they were arrested for allegedly doing was posted to the BPD’s Twitter account — a practice that is not unusual.

The cops ‘should’ be stripping off the masks immediately upon encountering them, IMHO.

Yeah, I guess when the bandannas and hoodies are removed and your face is in public, all of sudden, it isn’t cool. Its as if they are scared of repercussions in the future.
What was that quote from Jeff Cooper (Odin Allfather to All .45ACP) :

There is no need for police to mask themselves. I’ve discussed this on my blog as well. To me a mask is like a flag, wherein you identify yourself on my IFF as a ‘foe’.
It’s high time that the police unmask these freaks who live by violent behavior.
Anti-mask laws exist for a reason, and are opposed for a reason. I advocate private voting, and the right to anonymous affiliation, but when a person clearly crosses the line between SPEECH and BEHAVIOR, then NO protection from identification should be extended.
This is NOT the act of thought police. These people are not being arrested for their beliefs; they are being arrested because they were cutting tires, smashing the windows of a U. S. Marine Corps Recruiting Office, and throwing fireworks and flares at police.
And what was the purpose of the protest, at Berkeley, home of the Free Speech Movement? TO SUPPRESS FREE SPEECH. The wicked, evil speech which must be made to die was a ‘No to Marxism’ rally planned by two alt-right groups.

A question I have thought about recently. When a 74 YO concealed carrier is approached by mask wearing “ninjas” brandishing bats, clubs, or other items of inflicting injury, what is a reasonable & prudent reaction?
Running away is difficult on arthritic legs, physical resistance is a losing idea against young and healthy (at least physically) opponents?
Obviously, avoiding places where such confrontations might occur is a primary goal, but what if?
Reasonable fear for my life? Was Colonel Cooper right?
I don’t want to go to jail but I don’t want to be some thug’s punching bag or die at the hands of (real) fascists either.
I’ve wondered the same thing.
In many of these videos I’ve wondered how I would have avoided shooting instead of running.
I have trouble running more than a hundred yards or so (bad knee and hip). My feeling is I would retreat as much as possible, and then defend myself if pursued.
If you are in real fear for your life or the life of others, then that is the moment you’ll know to go ‘weapons hot.’
You’ll know when its time.
Retreating by backing away is the only safe way to retreat, and very few people can back up quicker than a normal person can move forward. To me, as explained by several people in the business, retreat does not mean running, it means moving at a normal pace away from the perceived threat. If you’re a slow mover, retreating is at your speed, not at the speed of a normal person or the attacker.
Of course, this all depends on how stupid/evil your local prosecutors, police, local politicians, media and area rabble-rousers are. One set of jackanapes can ruin your whole life in even the most obvious self-defense shoots.
Saw a local criminal recently in full “antifa” mode (clothing, symbols on backpack, mask) checking locks on bicycles at the library. Improvise and adapt or a mindset?
Good to see Berkeley P.D. showing some backbone.
Please note that Berkeley PD only did the right thing AFTER a federal judge ruled against them.

To Roger and others worried about self defense,
Know your town. In Berkeley California you would be in trouble. In Little Rock Arkansas, not so much.
Make sure you act only to defend yourself or another (preferably also weakened), stop when the threat stops ( no pursuing shots or rounds into down and out opponents), stay for the police or contact them immediately if the situation demands you flee for safety, and articulate your reasons for firing. Note, these are reasons tofear the bad guy, not political reasons. Give a statement! This is your chance to get your side out and avoid being charged.
I’m certain some will say, flee and wait to see if they find you. You (I assume) aren’t a criminal who went into this intending to do wrong, you will probably be found out and your flight will almost seal your fate.
Those who say, admit nothing, are assuming you won’t be tied to the shooting. How many masked culprits do we see identified? If it’s a protest there will be cameras. One good photo will lead to your identity in most cases.
That’s why you get out front and say, I thought he would kill me, I couldn’t get away. I feared for my life.
Most juries won’t punish you for feeling that. They will blame the thug with face covered, who was the aggressor.
I would shut up until I had a lawyer present.
After the shooting, if you can, safe your weapon and do not have it in your hand – that way leads to you getting shot.
And the only words from your mouth should be some variation of: “I was in fear for my (and other’s) life. I need a lawyer.”
And don’t talk to anyone else. Especially the media.
Remember, the police are at most a neutral party. Everyone else is not your friend.
I don’t know how things are out on the West coast, but where I live arrest records including booking photos are public information; the police couldn’t keep them confidential even if they wanted to.

Back in my DC days, there was a city code that forbade the wearing of masks except for Halloween. We used to run into crowds of lefties and snatch their gas masks and good sergeants used to give squad awards for whoever got the most. And anyone who resisted just got taken out of public view and tuned up or locked up. I miss the days before every Obamaphone came with a camera.
