California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration shut down a highly trained, all-volunteer team of certified firefighters in early 2024—a move that rendered the California National Guard incapable of sending a complete firefighting force to Los Angeles until 10 days after the deadly fires broke out in the city, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

Launched in 2020, Team Blaze was an on-call strike force staffed entirely with certified firefighters of the California State Guard, a volunteer militia force that reports directly to Gov. Gavin Newsom. Former State Guard commanding general Jay Coggan said its members attended regular trainings at their own expense, and an outside charity procured much of the team’s firefighting equipment at no cost to the state. California was obligated to pay Team Blaze only when the unit was activated to fight a wildfire, and by 2023 Coggan had plans to expand its ranks to 1,000 certified volunteer firefighters on standby all across the state.

But in January 2024, the Newsom administration disbanded Team Blaze after barring its charitable benefactor from providing free firefighting equipment to its volunteers.

This one truly makes NO sense to me. They were given free equipment, did training on their own time, and fulfilled their Guard duties. What was not to like???

They were a trained quick response team that could be on scene in literally 24 hours anywhere in CA, and were probably loaned out to other states if requested.

This one sounds like another penny wise pound foolish move, but I can’t help but wonder ‘what’ prompted this, unless the benefactor was a ‘threat’ to Newsome in some way.

Sigh… I feel for those folks, and those who have lost lives, homes, and belongings to what seems to be an avalanche of bad decisions that rolled from Sacramento all the way down to LAFD.

  1. It’s almost like the government doesn’t want older homes saved (which have lowered property tax values) and are in cahoots with investment groups that want to buy up those properties on the cheap, who will then do new builds, sell them at very high prices, and the government will get to do all new high value tax assessments on those new properties for the future. And I’m sure there’s some greasing of palms going on to ensure this is the deal…

At some point this building pressure cooker is going to blow. How and when are up for debate.

  2. The issues in CA only really start to make sense when you realize that the people in charge want the state to fail.

  3. Strictly speaking, what they want are two things conflicting in reality but not in their minds.

They want to use California to do ‘good’ things, and to go on to do ‘good’ things for more people, and they want to cause a lot of destruction.

They are sure that political power exists as an absolute unchanging thing that they can safely understand as static and without any higher order effects. So they never consider self sabotage, accidental or purposeful, and do not understand real leadership.

They also have an alien to us model of reality that is magical thinking, and that they are sure is a science and not a religion.

Core elements of their magical thinking, such as zero sum, drive a strong conviction on their part that all matters are coupled, and that destruction magic is the only and msot productive way to get the things that they want.

Our culture functions on the notion that lots of people can have their own business, with the businesses uncoupled and unrelated, and that the guy over there being successful is not necessarily any harm to me.

They have abandoned that, and gone to a 100% ‘if that guy is more successful than me, his success and my failure are both him witching me’.

This superstition has the effect of making them savage barbarians.

Newsome wants California to be successful for him, he is not intentionally trying to make himself a phariah.

But he is not sane, and has been stewing for years in environments that were really bad, mentally speaking.

  4. So you bar the State Guard from accepting donations for equipment and training, then disband the unit because there is no funding for equipment and training. I felt like I was reading Catch 22 again.

The story reads like the California National Guard commander is a raging antisemite and the fire fighters were the brainchild of the Jewish State Guard commander. Yeesh.

  5. State Guard. I was one, back in the days when it was the California State Military Reserve (CSMR). Served from 1983 to 2001. We called ourselves “C-Smurfs” because we were blue in the face from being effed over by politics. Really enjoyed the candor though. Without being insubordinate or disrespectful, I could speak the truth. What could they do, cut my pay and send me to California?

“This one sounds like another penny wise pound foolish move,…” No. As stated above, when not activated, State Guard members serve on their own time and own dime, saving the state money. They are a threat to no one, with the possible exception of when paid NG personnel whine about having to actually do their job.

  6. All- Thanks for the comments, RHT thanks for the clarification on the CSMR. I wasn’t aware they were not paid.

  7. I’ve been a member of the SC State Guard since 2015. Fought many floods, storms, hurricanes, as well as ground and underwater searches. We pride ourselves on our volunteer status, and pay for most of our equipment out of pocket. Why Guv Hairgel did not make use of such a valuable resource only makes my conspiracy theory factory go into overdrive!

  8. Firefighters Union involved?

They hate non-members, volunteers….. and are usually closely connected to the major Socialist Parties.

  9. This action should touted regularly and routinely by the media…..if they were honest. They are not.

  10. Ed- Makes one wonder, doesn’t it? And thanks for stepping up!

    Peter/Royal- Unknown

    Dan- Point!

  11. If it wasn’t for the reason Peter W mentioned, I would look at the donor of the equipment, and find out whether he failed to pay his tithe to NewScum, or if he might support wrongthink.
