Range Report…

Got a new addition to the ‘stable’ and took it to the range today, along with the Ruger 22/45 and the big 1911.

It’s the NEW Colt Mustang πŸ™‚

I put 25 rounds through it, cleaned it and shot another 25 just to break it in. Β It’s ‘comfortable’ to shoot, and the one thing I don’t care for is the grey front sight. Β I was shooting steels at 15 yards and they were dirty, so I had problems picking up the front sight against them. Β I guess I’ll do ‘something’ to the front ramp to make it a bit more visible.Β

This was the one ‘target’ I shot with it at 7 yards. The first round was low, the next four were a ‘tad’ low and the last one was a bull (I quit with that one…LOL).

22/45 with new sights and Volquartzen trigger
Put a couple of hundred rounds through it, working on sight picture and trigger press, as it now matches the .45 below for both πŸ™‚
And .22 is not worth a DAMN for knocking over steel, unless you hit em ALL the way at the top… dammit… Β I never did get a clean run where I actually knocked all six down… Β sigh…

Size comparison for Mustang with ‘normal’ 1911

Yep, I think this one is a keeper, and it will be my primary BUG, and I can ‘retire’ Momma’s .38 to the safe for fun shoots!

  1. DC- Yes it is, and lives up to what the production manager told us!

    Keads- πŸ™‚

CT- I’m quite pleased with it too! And it’s fairly accurate to 15 yards (dinging steels)

    Jay- Will do.

  2. Lookin’ good, Sir!

I have to admit, I really like my Bersa .380, the more I fire it – I’m becoming more & more comfortable with it, except I use a two handed grip, and it never fails, I put the left thumb too high & the slide scrapes some skin from the knuckle ………………… after about 5 rounds, with the slide making “ow-ies” on my thumb, I remember to lower the thumb ………………. πŸ˜‰

BTW, are you planning on attending next years’ NRA deal, here in Houston?

  3. Crucis- I’ll have to do a post on that, but it IS smaller. Thanks for the reminder…

Andy- You’re welcome to shoot em all, you know that πŸ™‚

DM- Yep, ‘little’ guns DO tend to chew on ya, especially when you’re getting just slightly out of position. And yes, planning to make Houston!!! πŸ™‚

  4. I use fingernail polish on my front sights. My summer color is some gawd-awful pinkish-orange I picked up a the dollar store. It clashes with everything, making the sights really easy to see.

  5. Thanks for letting me shoot the Mustang, Old NFO. I think I’m going to get myself one of those! It was so great to see you this weekend, and I’m mighty grateful for all the work you put in on my porch. Godspeed, friend. πŸ™‚

  6. As a Viet Nam vet I’ve reached the age that makes it harder and harder to pick out the front sight unless it’s been modified. An inexpensive ($10) solution to consider is a tritium paint kit from Cabela’s. You simply wipe the sight with an alcohol wipe, using a toothpick you use the primer and let it dry then, using a toothpick again, put on the tritium. Add another coat of tritium and you’re done.

  7. That’s good to know. I didn’t know tritium paint was available. I have the same problem as you.
