Sigh… It just keeps coming and coming…

Ammo Ban Bill-

The proposal, crafted by Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg and Democratic Representative Carolyn McCarthy, aims to restrict the ability of Americans to buy unlimited quantities of ammunition over the Internet, or by mail order, anonymously.

The new legislation, dubbed the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act, rests on four pillars, according to Lautenberg’s office:

It requires anyone selling ammunition to be a licensed dealer.

It requires ammunition buyers who are not licensed dealers to present photo identification at the time of purchase, effectively banning the online or mail order purchase of ammo by regular civilians.

It requires licensed ammunition dealers to maintain records of the sale of ammunition.

It requires licensed ammunition dealers to report the sale of more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition to an unlicensed person within any five consecutive business days.

And another one…

As the brief explains, “the objective of this effort is to procure riot gear to prepare for the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions, the 2013 Presidential Inauguration and other future similar activities.”

Specifically, DHS is looking to obtain:
“147 riot helmets” with “adjustable tactical face shield with liquid seal”
“147 sets of upper body and shoulder protection”
“152 sets of thigh and groin protection”
“147 hard-shell shin guards” with “substantial protection from flying debris, non-ballistic weapons, and blows to the leg” and “optimized protective design for severe riot control or tactical situations.”
“156 forearm protectors”
“147 pairs of tactical gloves”

The urgency of the order can be explained by the fact that there is a growing anticipation that many demonstrators will travel to the Republican National Convention (RNC), scheduled for August 27-30 in Tampa Bay, Florida, and Democratic National Convention (DNC), planned for September 3-6 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Another recent DHS move to gear up was back in March of this year, when it gave the defense contractor ATK a deal to provide the DHS with 450 million .40 caliber hollow-point ammunition over a five year period.

On top of that, the DHS has recently purchased a number of bullet-proof checkpoint booths and hired hundreds of new security guards to protect government buildings.

  1. Soooo…you buy 500 blocks at a time every 6 days… And the bad guys get whatever they want as usual. Because they’re the bad guys and know how to do things like that.

  2. These vainglorious politicians are trying to stamp on the Second Amendment by posturing and creating yet another completely worthless “Gun Act”. Since when did criminals have a problem obtaining illegal arms and ammo? (anywhere in the world)

In Mexico, private ownership of firearms is strictly enforced — and we know that only the cartels are armed there…

  3. A while back AGirl asked what it would take to push things over the edge . . . .

The government seems to be actively searching for what that might be . . . .

  4. I really have no idea, so correct me if necessary…
The B-17 HAS to burn what…
30 gallons per hour per engine?
So, 120 X $6.00= $720/hour to fly that beautiful piece of history?
(And FiFi was flying over OshKosh daily at about twice that rate.)
At some point, finances will preclude us from seeing them airborne. Sad.

  5. PH- Yep… sigh… Guess I won’t be making my usual 3000 round orders!

LL- They don’t and you’re right on the cartels for anything over a .22

    eia- Concur!

    Murph- Yep!!!

WSF- I used to use people walking around as my ‘tuning’ for FLIR, and the goats were tethered. 🙂

GB- 50gph/engine at cruise of 100LL AVGAS- Conservatively $1000/hr just in fuel! And I don’t see that dropping, so yeah, they will not be doing that much longer!

  6. We sat around work the other day watching the Apaches working over the Taliban.

We were told by our USMC grunt alumni to quit yelling Don’t hit the donkey!

    Gerry

  7. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), who has personal body guards & limo drivers at his 24-hour disposal, who works in offices garrisoned by a private Army (Capitol Cops), behind metal detectors, vicious attack puppy-dogs, bomb sniffers, chem sniffers and about 1000 real-time HD cameras— he will let us all know what tools WE may beg to have – errr – just in case we might get that “not so fresh feeling,” one day. Until then, JUST SHUT UP & OBEY.

  8. Gun grabbers are all idiot assholes.
I loved the exploding Taliban video, that one guy had a hellfire hit him directly. No virgins for him….

I have a B-17, 29 question for the air boys. How much weight was added when they loaded up all the ammo for those guns? secondly, which gunner position was the deadliest to man?

  9. Gerry- I had to laugh at that 🙂

    Russell- Point well made!

Danny- It equaled the bomb load- 5000 lbs of ammo, and 5000 lbs of bombs. They carried appx 4000 rounds…

    Les- If only… LOLO

  10. “Belly turret.” – sounds pretty straight-forward, however, the ground crews would flip a coin (or two) on who was going to have to hose the thing out when the gunner got turned into Jello-brand jello. Not a lot of Purple-Heart ceremonies that any of us want to see.
